Charlton Motel built in the 1960s.Colour photograph of Charlton Motel taken from across the Calder Hwy looking south east. The motel is a white brick single storey building with red-brown trim on the eaves. The verandah and windows are arched. There is a large tree in the centre of the photo and a white driving toward the photographer. There is a yellow sign in front of the motel and an orange sign on the roof.

On January 18, 1875, Mr R.A. Nicholson opened Charlton's first school. On the first day of school he wrote to the education department stating that 42 children were in attendance and also sent in a request for the Minister of Education to supply the "much needed accommodation" which had been promised to him some time ago as there was only a bark hut 18 feet by 10 feet for present purposes. Three weeks later, Mr Nicholson wrote again to the Education Department, sending in the above photograph of the bark hut as a photographer had recently been in the area. He once again stressed his need for a more suitable building. East Charlton Hotel built in 1875 by John Flug to replace his original log and bark inn built 1863. The first inn was about 100 metres behind this building and it was Charlton's first commercial building. The hotel was rebuilt by C. Klug in 1891. It was rebuilt as a two storey building in 1925. Charlton Railway Station was established in 1882 and closed down in the late 1970s.Colour photograph of the disused Charlton Railway Station. The Globe Hotel High St Charlton c. 1960. The Hotel was first established in 1874 and this is the third building on the site. This building was built in 1940.
