One of a few service vehicles built from almost new by the MMTB rather than being a converted vehicle. Donated to the BTM in 1999 and has been an operational tram 2001.Single truck (4 wheels), special purpose tram fitted with two cabs, control equipment, air brakes, track scrubber or cleaning equipment, pump, water and air lines to clean track. Carries approx. 4 cubic metres of water. The tram was built by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board in 1934 using the cabs from a C class tram (No. 32). It was transported to the isolated Footscray system a number of times to clean the rails there. In 1961 it received additional body bracing and repainted in the diagonal black and string (light cream) stripes. The tram became 8W during 1975 as the then new Z class trams came into service. By the early 1990's the need for the tram and the other similar cars used to "scrub" the surface of the rails was no longer. The tram was stored at Malvern depot for many years before being donated to the Ballarat Tramway Museum by the Public Transport Commission in September 1999. It has been scrubbing the rails in Ballarat since March 2001. For a detailed article see April 2008 issue of Fares Please. World war 2 Japanese good luck flag carried by Japanese soldier in the Pacific. Good luck flags were commonly carried and bore the names of members of the soldiers home town.It is believed that this flag had previously been on display at the old Footscray depotJapanese flag comprising of red circle centrally located on a stained white background with black conji lettering surrounding the central red circle. The flag is quite badly stained and has rips and moth holes distributed evenly across its face. there is some slight bleeding of the red colour into the lighter fabric above the circle. Framed behind consevation glass in stained wood and gold frame on a black card board backing. ww2, japan

Photo Album - 48 sheets bound with a white circular metal/plastic spiral bound within a heavy duty cardboard cover, with glued cover pages, plastic covered with an index sheet. Allows for three photographs per page. Not known whether the plastic envelope for each photograph is of archival quality. No Manufacture detail, though has a bar code on the bottom left hand corner of the rear cover. Cover is a reproduction from a painted art piece. Photocopy of a newsletter to Public Transport Corporation staff, May 1992, titled "Leader's Digest", Vol 1 and No. 1 (unknown if any more published), with a photo of a group of five people undergoing a team briefing. Original document 16 pages, but only a few copied, principally about the proposed Tram Cross - Linking and Route Restructure proposals. Follows the Tram and Bus Strategic Review Committee of April 1991. Some are finished with a plastic laminate finish on either one or both sides. Show the major cross streets, parks, schools, other tram routes, major stop numbers and railway lines.
