The bell was installed in the late 1880s at Myrtleford State School 955, Elgin Street, Myrtleford and rang there until the school relocated to a new site in early 1939. The bell followed the pupils to O'Donnell Avenue, but was dismantled and placed in storage in the 1950s. This bell is tied to the early daily life of state schooling in Elgin Street, from the commencement of the decline of gold mining in the district until immediately before the outbreak of World War 2. It is also related to the daily lives of children who participated in the "consolidation" of state schooling at O'Donnell Avenue and the development of "higher elementary" education.Large complete brass school bell with steel tongue.Inscription: "C. Rev Alexander W. Bray founded the Methodist Order of Knights in 1914, when he was a Sunday School teacher at Hurstville. He was later ordained and was stationed at: 1924 Barraba; 1925 Far West Mission; 1928 Rylstone; 1931 Goulburn; 1936 Lower Blue Mountains; 1940 Waratah-Broadmeadow; 1945 Annandale; 1952 Nowra; 1956 Boorowa; 1961 Dural. The Australian Womens Army Service was raised on 13 August 1941, and in 1944 and 1945 AWAS served in Dutch and Australian New Guinea. Ballarat School of Mines Council President, Bill Gribble, studied Art at Ballarat School of Mines Technical Art School. In 1956 he was working with Villiers Engineering, then Bendex Mintex in 1966. He retired from there in 1988 as Chairman and Managing Director. In 1989 Bill Gribble was appointed to the Ballarat School of Mines Council. He served as President from 1992 until his retirement in 1996. In that year the Ballarat Technical Art School building was named the W.J. The Kew Philharmonic Society was founded by Dr. Ehrenfeld, c.1946, who was also the Orchestra's first conductor. He was succeeded by Harold Badger in 1954 following the death of the former. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Orchestra played its concerts in the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street. In 1960, the Orchestra relocated to the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road (the site of the current Kew Library).Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1960s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The Erard Concert Grand Piano was moved into the University of Ballarat 1870 Founders' Hall in March 1996. The piano was originally brought to Australia in 1904 for a brief tour by pianist Paderewski. Known as the 'Prince of Pianists' Paderewski selected the piano for his tour in preference to all other makes. The piano was later sold, and had little use since the concert tour. Before arriving at Mt Helen the piano was appraised by expert David Bloom who said it was in great condition for its age. .2) University of Ballarat Maintenance staff move the Errard Concert Grande into Founders' Hall.
