Antique paging or page numbering machine, also referred to as a paginater. Machine prints six digit numbers consecutively. It was used in the printing industry to number consecutive pages of journals in the early 1900’s. Alex Cowan & Sons Ltd. of Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide supplied printing equipment to other firms. The parent company, Alexander Cowan & Sons Ltd., manufactured fine paper in Valleyfield, Penicuik, Scotland from 1814-1937. One of a series of Mission to Seamen postcards produced in the immediate post-war and post WW2 period. The other reason for creation could be the 1956 MTS centenary celebrations. These town photos are part of a collection donated by Elaine Mann and Olive Codling. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club.This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.Wodonga Home Furnishers located beside the old railway crossing in High Street, Wodonga. Wodonga Home Furnishers was owned by Les Cheesely who was also a Councillor on Wodonga City Council from 1981 to 1994. The building was demolished in November 1998 to make way for the realignment of Elgin Street to join what was then Jack Hore Place. The Wesleyan Church, Denham Street in Lower Hawthorn, as the area was then called, was opened on 2 May 1886. The building was designed by Geelong architect William Henry Cleverdon and was built of brick in the Gothic style. Its dimensions were 55 x 33 ft and the façade incorporated a rose window and spire 50 ft high. A wooden vestry was placed to the rear. The building and the organ were seriously damaged by fire on 1 April 1970, started by a painter's blowtorch. St Nicholas Seamen's Church was furnished thanks to donations of supporters of the Mission.The document lists all the gifts donated by generous supporters of the Mission in 1946. The chapel was built during World War 2 as memorial to the merchant seamen lost during the war.
