Royal Australian Navy officer's peaked cap with a woven dark navy band and off-white piqued top in synthetic material. Patent leather peak is black with green underside. The cap has a black patent leather chin strap that runs across the top of the peak, secured on left and right with press stud buttons. Above the peak is an embroidered insignia of the Royal Australian Navy, a crown with an anchor underneath. Hat brim is stiffened by foam and bears a brown leather band with punched holes, presumably for ventilation. The interior lining is black.Interior tag at back of hat reads "59". The hat was picked up at sea by a German Sailor serving on the blockade runner RAMSES. It was giver to RAN sailor A. Tarr when HMAS Adelaide rescued survivors after the sinking of the RAMSES. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare provided some information about Shigeyoshi Higuchi. He was a sailor but did not serve on a ship. After WWII, he returned safely home to his family.This hat is significant as a tangible connection to wartime service by Japanese sailor Shigeyoshi Higuchi.A dark blue circular velvet hat lined with black cotton on the inside with four studs. A square label with printed and hand written Japanese characters is attached to the underside of the hat.Part of the label has been translated from Japanese into English. It indicates the owner of the hat was Shigeyoshi Higuchi, who was based in Nagasaki Sasebo. His military number was (some kanji) and 1274. This hat was worn by members of the Country Fire Authority on ceremonial occasions.A peaked black woollen gaberdine fireman's hat with a black petersham band edged with silver binding. There is a silver badge with the letters CFA- Lieutenant in the middle of the band. On each side there are two silver buttons with 'cfa' stamped on them. These hat pins would have been used by women wearing the large-style hats popular at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The hat pin was both a practical and an ornamental item. Smaller varieties of hat pins may still be used today. Made by Mrs Sayer in 1980 at Deniliqiun TAFE "Garment Assembly" course which was 2 years long. A popular course which was common in those days, Mrs Sayer was always crafty but not good at the other subjects. She wore this hat with the full ensemble also containing a dress and wool coat from 1980 - 2014.Small brim women's sunhat. Sandy brown in colour. This hat pin stand would have been a common object in a woman’s bedroom in the past, especially about the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century when women wore large hats and they needed large pins to hold them in place. This hat pin holder has no known local provenance but it is kept as a memento of the past and will be useful for display.This is a silver-coloured metal stand with a round base with impressed patterns on the top and a central raised oval section containing a circular spike.
