The first Presbyterian gathering was held in Wycheproof in 1876, this led to the organization of a congregation and the building of a church. The first church was in Charles Street on the north side of the Mount. It served the congregation for twenty years. The new church in Mount Street opened 06-09-1896 and after 115 years the doors closed for worship in 2011.A building of spiritual and social significance to the Presbyterian congregation and wider community of Wycheproof and District for 115 years.Small format sepia print taken between 1912-1937of the Wycheproof Presbyterian Church Complex. Designed on early English lines, the church dated 1896 was built of red-brick with buttresses and decorated cream-brick trimmings. The arched windows are glazed in diamond shaped leadlight. The high pitched roof is of galvanized corrugated iron. The Sunday School Hall 1912, of timber construction with feature trim of arched windows and doors and a galvanized corrugated iron roof. The Manse 1909, of timber construction with galvanized corrugated iron roof and fret-work on the space above the verandah. Iron lace decorates the wooden verandah posts. Fencing: Post and Rail. Residence Fountainhead Brewery Armstrong's Est. c 1872. The rear view photograph shows a more recent renovated building. Some evidence of demolition to rear of building (servants stairs etc.) Following notes taken from information in album 9 - "Compare earlier photos and note balcony etc. Later views, This photo early 2003. Owing to timber decay balcony was removed for safety. Finances permitting complete balcony will be replaced. Twin columns and iron lace are not original. Early description mentions statues in "niches" beside door. Female statue left is original. White pedestal at left was male stature damaged by a falling tree. Both statues were fountains." Cricketer W.G. Grace said the City Oval was the 'most English' of any grounds he had played on in Australia. The City Ova Grandstand was constructed in 1898 to the designs of Clegg, Kell and Miller. The arched roof is supported by iron columns with cast iron brackets. Three squat lanterns are a feature of the roof, and support flagpoles. The cast iron balustrading at the front of the grandstand features a sunflower pattern, and the upper tiered section covers dressing rooms and internal stairways. Registered by Heritage Victoria, it is significant as a large and intact grandstand. The design, especially the roof, is unique in Victoria and the setting is enhanced by the ancillary ticket boxes and nearby mature trees. It was classifed by the National Trust on 11 June 1981.
