Has a strong association with a Ballarat Tramway Inspector and his activities - cricket.Series of three photographs, mounted, featuring Ballarat Cricket teams that included H.P. James, a Ballarat, tramway inspector. .1 - Photograph of a Ballarat cricket team photographed with a grandstand in the background. Mounted in a red coloured cardboard folder, plain on inside. Photograph imprinted with "Vincent Kelly Bendigo" impression. Top left hand corner of folder has been marked with word "James", has pencil sketches of a persons face on it and other words. The photograph itself has cracking and crinkles in it. On the top of the photograph in a white label is number "2". Outside of cover has part of the red printed paper along the spine. Also has remnant cotton stitching through the spine. Dimensions 277H x 216D 2. - Photograph of a youthful cricket team, in front of a wooden grandstand. (VIC Marriage Benj Owens and Martha Wallace, 849/1895) Unsourced research notes by unknown author: Bridal couple Ben Owens & Jessie Cumming. Jessie was the adopted daughter of William Cumming and his wife Elizabeth (nee Grant). William was the caretaker of the Toorourrong Reservoir. Also in the photo: On the very left are James Coulthard and his wife, the Presbyterian Minister Rev. Jenkins is the tall bearded man on the verandah, to his right is Eliza Cumming above, then to her right is Catherine Cumming (nee McKerchar), her daughter in law, holding Eliza Cumming (Toots) b.1893. Standing in front Alexander Cumming b.1889 and then Jessie Cumming b.1888, to the right James Cumming, husband of Catherine, holding Robert b.1892 d.1897. The house in the photo is believed to be the original caretaker's cottage. John Cumming, 6th son of William & Eliza (nee Grant). John also worked at Toorourrong. British army officer Major Charles Newman was an early settler on the Yarra River at Templestowe after serving in India in the East India Company. Later be married and moved to Tasmania, farming at Black Brush near Pontville. In 1835 he came to the Port Phillip District and explored the Yarra River, returning with his family. David Crockett and Hazel Poulter researched, respectively, Charles Newman and the Templestowe area, identifying the Newman house, Pontville, on the Yarra banks. These clubs play an important sporting and social role within these communities.The Wodonga Bowling Club was formally constituted on 9 September 1925. Percy Lingford was elected as President and Edward William Owens was elected Secretary. The Associate (Ladies) Branch of the club was constituted on 22 August with Doll Connell elected as president and May Hicks elected as secretary. The Albury Golf Club was initially formed in 1899 with President Mr. G.A. Thompson and Mr, James Stephen as Honorary Secretary.
