These ribbons were worn on the Clarendon Ladies College (CLC) uniform summer and winter hat. The CLC accessories were worn in the 1900 - 1910 era. After 1920 the school changed its name to Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College and the crest reflected ths change. Prior to the early 1900s students wore dark skirts and white blouses and ribbon ties. Formal photographs taken at Speech Night saw the girls in frilled and lace white dresses. Case, c. 1916
This case may have once attached to the belt of a soldier as a carry case for an artillery sight.Dark leather case constructed of two elongated semi-circle shapes, hand or machine stitched with a gusset. Edges trimmed in leather binding and rectangular lid held in place on one side by stitched leather hinge and fastened with metal buckle on other side. Reverse of the case has a leather loop held in place with stitching and 6 metal studs or rivets; a metal rectangular loop is stitched in place with fine wire twisted and attached to loop. Interior of case appears to be felted wool or fibre, cream in colour with small leather loop on right side, perhaps to hold a small accessory. The photo has H. R. ROACH when it is actually R. H. ROACH. Robert Hartley ROACH enlisted on 28.1.1916 in the AIF in 17th reinforcements to the 6th Batt age 24 years 9 months. Embarked for Egypt 4.4.1916, embarked for England 31.5.1916, embarked for France 16.9.1916.hospitalised 4.12.1916 with Influenza, WIA Belgium 16.9.1917 GSW, to buttocks which penetrated through to the abdomen. Admitted to No 3 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station same day but DOW’s same day. His name is on the Honour Roll at the Soldiers Memorial Institute Bendigo. ‘Sepia photo on white background, mounted on grey cardboard fawn backing.
