Book titled Bye-Laws and Regulations of the Bendigo Corpporation, 1889 to 1895 - 8. Printed by J. B. Young, Lyttleton Terrace. Back part of the orange cover is missing and the front one is loose. Written at the top is a name but it is unreadable. Dated 22/8?/1901. By-Laws mentioned are Nos. 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, Health Bye-Law Nos. 3, 4, 5, Regulation Nos. 27, 27A, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, Addendum , 1898 Regulation No. 35, Bye-Law Nos. 17, 18, 19, 20, and Regulation No. 36. Each one has the name of the Mayor and Town Clerk, or President and/or Secretary, Chairman and Town Clerk. Copy of an article from the Bendigo Weekly 30/12/1999 Discover Bendigo by James Lerk titled John Emery and His Associates. John Emery was a tailor who had a business in Raywood. He moved to Bendigo where he set up his business as a tailor, draper and clothing mercer at the corner of Pall Mall and Mitchell Street. The shop was close to the Beehive Exchange, where he invested in the quartz mining companies. He took on a partner, T S Gibson, who was a clothier. Emery was involved in the Bendigo Bowling Club and St Paul's Church. Later he travelled and became a collector of curios. He donated sculptures to the Bendigo Art Gallery and loaned a number of paintings. Book - BUSH COLLECTION : LEDGER BOOK 1888 TO 1920
a. Book with a mottled blue-grey cover with brown leather spine and extends 5.5 cm to front and back. Corner edges also had the leather, two are missing and the other two are dilapidated. A red stuck on tape near the top of the spine had Ledger printed with some gold edging, most of which is worn off. Inside the front and back covers is a red, blue and white marble pattern. Front and back covers have been reinforced with white tape. 542 page Ledger Book for a general produce merchant. Probably Albert Bush. Alphabetical index at front. Entries in black ink on all pages and date from 1888 to 1920. Loose 4 page foolscap inside front cover listing Rolling Stock and Value. b. A pocket in the back of the book contains 6 pieces of paper relating to business and finance. Items include Discounts and Commission from 1888 to 1899, a note on insurance, a note dated June 2/90 headed Mr A Bush Sandhurst Dr to S A Bush & Co listing monthly amounts of money from Jan 1890 and 1889. Some amounts are with the name G P Reddie.Another one is a Building A/C dated 1889. Another is a balance sheet written on a page with another one written on the back and dated 1893. One written on paper headed Bush's Stores, Main Street, Bairnsdale and printed S.A.Bush & Co. It looks like a list of repayments listed in 8 bills. The other side of the page refers to Bill of Sales for Yeates & Baker and Bill of Sales held by the Bank of New South Wales. There is also a copy of two letters addressed to A Bush, one dated Oct 17.06 from H Hopkins referring to the late Mr Baker's property in Sale. Document - Bendigo Plumpton Coursing Club Season ticket, 1897
Greyhound Racing commenced in Bendigo in the 1920′s when field coursing (Plumpton) was conducted in the centre of the Bendigo racecourse at Epsom. The coursing continued until 1954 when the blue ribbon classic “The Victorian Waterloo Cup” was run at Bendigo over a three day carnival. The A.N.A. Hall in View Street was opened in August 1894. The Sandhurst Branch was started on August 26th, 1874. In July 1874, several gentlemen met together, and when a sufficient number had given in their names and sufficient promises of support had been received, the board of directors were approached with a view to forming a branch of the association in Bendigo. On August 26, 1874, the inception took place. The building was demolished in 1971. Photo collage of members of the Building Committee of the Sandhurst Branch of the Australian Natives' Association.
