The provisional committee being Mr W Bates, Mr J M Bruce, Mr J D Gowan, Mr Edwin Newbiggin, Mr C M Officer, M. L, A., and the Rev. W. Moss. The Adult Deaf and Dumb Mission's objects were: 1. To provide the means for religious worship and instruction for the adult deaf and dumb of Victoria 2. To visit the deaf and dumb in their homes, especially when sick or in distress 3. To assist the deaf and dumb of good character in obtaining suitable employment 4. To provide technical and other education for the adult and dumb 5. Nixon ...The Federation University Mt Helen Campus was once the farm of John Latta and his wife Elizabeth Ann Dean. The couple married in 1867 and had three children at the time of John Latta's death (Elizabeth Ann b.1870; Mary b.1873; John b.1875). Elizabeth later married George Downing, and had another six children. The house was situated in the vicinity of the current Administration and Caro Conference Centre buildings, surrounded by an orchard, and a well under the current Albert Coates Building (Union Building). Its aim was to help all agencies established to promote the advancement of the Deaf and Dumb. The aim was to be the "Voice" of the Deaf and Dumb of Australasia". To educate the public as to the real condition and needs of the afflicted brothers and sisters, to bring prominently before the hearing and speaking community the peculiar difficulties and obstacles that Deaf Mutes have to encounter in the battle of life. Mr ...Two copies of a sixteen page booklet titled First Fifty Years, detailing a brief history, researched by John Watson, of St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Balaclava Road Caulfield, between 1910-1960. The booklet includes several images, including two photographs, one of the interior of the church, the other of the interior of the main hall. There is also a set of six portrait photographs of the ministers of St. Stephen’s from 1913-1960. There is also a photograph of the front view of the first church and a sketch by Haddon and Henderson architects of the design for the present, 1960, church dated to the early-mid 1920s. There is a list of names of office-bearers for the year 1960. That list has been photocopied and is included in the file.
