The Morwell War Memorial Morwell War was unveiled on 06 June 1921. The Memorial was originally the level crossing between Commercial Road and Station Street (later Princes Highway). It was later moved to its present position on the Princes Highway opposite Hoyle Street. Certificate given to Thomas Flanagan for his 23 years of service and residency in Tatura. Signed by A3 size certificate, cream coloured paper with a brown border 2 cm in from the edge. Inside the border are flowers surrounding an of white space which has a letter of thanks printed in black ink. Across the top of the white space is a curved ribbon which has "Thomas Flanagan Esq. JP" printed in fancy writing. The certificate has a brown mount around it and then framed in a brown wooden frame with glass. GARFIELD ž Kilmartin Road, Cooma.|John Thomas Dougherty, an American, came to the Tatura area in 1874. He married Emily Whitnell from Whroo in 1883 and they had nine children.|He started building Garfield in 1886 and it was not completed until 1897. The building was named after President Garfield of America.|The building still contains the original Ericson wall telephone with its tag inside dated 1906. The house contains many features such as Jacobean over mantel and fire surround in the dining room, stained glass, a push button bell, and a stair well leading to an underground living area used in the summer for coolness.
