The Union commenced as the Australian Tramway Employees Association in 1910. Changed its name in 1934 to the "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" so as to incorporate bus drivers of motor omnibuses. Union members were issued with badges to indicate their membership. They were permitted to be worn on their uniforms. See item 5943 for another example. Wearing of Union badges in Brisbane Tramways was a major source of industrial action in 2012 - see "One American too many" by David Burke, published 2012 by the Queensland Museum.Demonstrates a badge issued to members of the ATEABadge - Australian Tramway Employees Association (Tramways Union) badge. Reproduction slide of a photograph of a cable tram, trailer number 201, with the destination or Carlton with the grip man and conductor standing in front of the tram. Both are young men. The conductor is adorned with his safety pins and trip slips, that he would punch a hole in when he sold or collected a fare. The bell punch in the conductor's right hand would sound a bell to indicate the fare had been collected. There is a church vicarage in the background - at Prahran terminus in Chapel Street outside Trinity church. Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean. Inspector's Cap - MMTB - green cloth exterior, brown cotton interior lining with black leather pad on the inside, black leather internal hat band, black cotton hat band on exterior with a black cord at the front half of the cap terminating in two small MMTB gold metal buttons on either side, black plastic external peak and green on the inside of the cap. Hat band has two gold bands or braids around the outside of the cap. Has a manufacturers lable inside the cap - made by Mountcastle Pty Ltd of Melbourne St South Brisbane.
