Preston Market, Saturday late is part of a series of paintings and sketches that were included in Mary Hammond’s solo exhibition, Coming and Going, held at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre in 2010. The exhibition, a major retrospective of Hammond’s work from the mid-1970s-2009, focussed on her everyday depiction of people in Northcote and Preston, particularly along High Street, Northcote where she had a studio for a few years, and the Preston Market, primarily during the 1980s and 1990s.

The article refers to Mrs Doreen Crawford having spent 12 years as Assistant Secretary at the Bendigo RSL Memorial Hall until 1967, on leaving this job she took on a Visiting Officers role with Legacy in McKenzie Street Bendigo where she be looking after and visiting approximately 200 War Widows in their own homes as well as Homes & Hospitals. A special luncheon was held for World War 1 widows as a lead up to "Legacy Week". Legatees dressed up as waiters to add a bit of humour to the day. Due to its success it was held for a number of years. Kitchen helpers were photographed (from the same roll of film as 00933), including Joan Miller. This work forms part of the collection assembled by the historian Dorothy Rogers, that was donated to the Kew Historical Society by her son John Rogers in 2015. The manuscripts, photographs, maps, and documents were sourced by her from both family and local collections or produced as references for her print publications. Many were directly used by Rogers in writing ‘Lovely Old Homes of Kew’ (1961) and 'A History of Kew' (1973), or the numerous articles on local history that she produced for suburban newspapers. Most of the photographs in the collection include detailed annotations in her hand. The Rogers Collection provides a comprehensive insight into the working habits of a historian in the 1960s and 1970s. Together it forms the largest privately-donated collection within the archives of the Kew Historical Society.The National Trust citation in 1960 stated that Houghton (dem.) appeared to date from the 1850's and might possibly be of prefabricated construction. Although modified, it contained substantial external evidence of its early construction and is one of the few buildings remaining in Kew from this early period. It was used at one stage as a doctor's surgery and residence - the surgery being at the rear of the property. Houghton in Princess Street Kew was an early Victorian cottage at one stage owned by a relative of the Beath family in nearby Ivy Grange. Their is a chapter on Houghton in Rogers, Dorothy (1961) Lovely Old Homes of Kew. Information about the Repatriation General Hospital Concord becoming part of NSW Public Health System in 1993. Sydney Legacy may have been involved as they sent Melbourne Legacy two photos and these 3 documents. One document mentions 'Concord Repatriation General Hospital will always remain open to the State's veterans and war widows'.
