A portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by William Dargie that was acquired in 1967. It was previously hung alongside a painting of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, but has been moved to storage in the archive. The directory has a brown fabric cover which has been embossed. The embossing has been worn down and is hard to see. The title is written in gold foiling in the centre of the cover. The directory contains 73 pages of address listings and an additional 24 pages of advertisements. Each town has had its addresses listed by street location and a separate listing of the same addresses listed in alphabetical order by name of occupant. Additional handwritten pages were placed inside the front cover (2 A4 pages folded in half). Written in pen. Inside the front cover and back cover written in pen: "E.A. Martin 17 Johnston Street Castlemaine" Title page (written in pen): "Miss Martin AMW Brotherton from Miss Martin 24th April 1951" Page 49 (written in pen) under Hargreaves Street - South to North right hand. Cr. W.D. Vaughan in 'Kew's Civic History' (1960) records that: "In connection with the Melbourne Centenary Celebrations in 1934, the Kew Council decided to organise a strong post as an appropriate gesture of welcome to H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester. Also that the municipality be represented by a symbolic floral float in the Royal pageant. This was a striking entry and won first prize, and evoked much comment on account of its originality and truly Australian motif." The photograph of the Kew Strong Post was once part of the Municipal Collection of the former City of Kew and was presented to the Kew Historical Society before the move from the Walpole Street (Kew) Town Hall to new Civic offices in Charles Street in 1971.Historic photograph of participation by the City of Kew in celebrations for a royal visitFramed and glazed photograph on its original inscribed mount and original frame of the Kew "Strong Post" in St Kilda Road on the occasion of the visit to Melbourne of the Duke of Gloucester. Instrument - CORNET, CASE AND ACCESSORIES
This instrument was played in many international competitions outside of Australia. Locally this cornet was played by Mr. Stewart Dunn of Angus Street, Clunes, during the 1930's Mr. Roberts played with the Clunes Brass Band for 35 years and in 1908 was presented with a hot water kettle in recognition of his service to the band.
