The Mission to seamen provided special services and support for cadets and officers of the merchant fleets. Officers had access to accommodation at the Mission and were encouraged as senior crew to improve pastoral and counselling skills that may benefit crews at sea. Cloth badge for HMAS Vendetta DD-08. HMAS Vendetta was one of three Daring class destroyers built for and operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The destroyer was built by Williamstown Naval Dockyard and entered service in 1958. During her early career, Vendetta was deployed to the Far East Strategic Reserve on multiple occasions. In 1965 and 1966, the destroyer undertook deterrence patrols during the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation. Along with several runs escorting the troop transport HMAS Sydney to Vietnam, from late 1969 to early 1970 Vendetta was assigned to combat operations, and became the only Australian-built warship to serve in a shore bombardment role during the Vietnam War. The ship underwent a two-year modernisation from 1971 to 1973, and in December 1974 was one of thirteen RAN warships involved in Operation Navy Help Darwin after Cyclone Tracy devastated Darwin. Several more deployments were made to the Far East, up until 1978. In October 1979, the destroyer was decommissioned, and served as a parts hulk for sister ship HMAS Vampire. When the newly married William and Anna Maria Greenlaw acquired the property in 1862, an existing house known as Studley Villa stood on the land. John Hodgson probably built the latter soon after he bought three portions of land here in 1853. The Greenlaws changed the name of the residence to Villa Alba in about 1870 and in 1882-84 rebuilt the house to create the present mansion. After William Greenlaw’s death in 1895, John Ballinger rented the house until 1914. The lease then passed to Samuel and Esther Fripp, who went on to purchase the property in 1918 after Anna Maria Greenlaw’s death in 1918.This rare textile is associated with the most significant period of Villa Alba's history and is an example of the colonial aspirations of its citizens in the boom years of the 1880s before the crash that engulfed the owner.Small white damask tablecloth or napkin embroidered with the crest of William Greenlaw, the owner of Villa Alba in Walmer Street, Kew. Fireplace tongs were used to add wood to the fireplace as well as break down the crackling wood to add more oxygen to growing flames. Of the four tools that were usually found in an upright fireplace set, tongs had the biggest design variation. W. Membrey Blacksmith Shop in Patrick Street beside the sale yards which later became the Technical School Gold Reef Campus. W. Membrey died when young leaving a large family. The business was then rented to Mr. G. Brehaut for 12/6 (twelve shillings six pence) per week. The Membrey family lived in Skene St. Stawell for many years. This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material from 2000. A poster that was printed to promote Legacy Week. The article mentions it was proposed to produce bumper stickers and Victorian Taxi Association had agreed to distribute the stickers for placement on taxis during Legacy Week. Gunn was Stated Clerk of the Victorian Presbyterian Assembly until 1976. In 1986 he had been ordained 50 years. Gunn was ordained on February 12, 1936 in New Zealand. He served in three parishes before chaplaincy with the 20th Armoured Regiment in WW2. He was awarded the MBE for devotion to duty and recovering wounded soldiers across a minefield under mortar fire. He was called to St Andrew's Gardiner in 1955 and became the Stated Clerk of the Assembly in 1969, and in 1970 was also Stated Clerk of the General Assembly of Australia. He was Moderator of Victoria in 1965 and 1967. He chaired the Joint Constituional Council and the commission set up to prepare the interim constituion of the Uniting Church.
