This container has been used to hold writing ink for commercial purposes so it would have been used by businesses and offices of all kinds. Ink was used in conjunction with writing tools (pens, quills, blotting paper etc) prior to the widespread use after the 1950s of the ballpoint pen for most handwritten work. This container has no known local significance but it is an example of the type of container that would have been used in local businesses and offices in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. It will be useful for display. This is a ceramic container, light-brown in colour and varnished. The body of the container is circular in shape with a smaller circular-shaped neck and a top opening with a lip for pouring. The container has some imperfections and protrusions and the top has some chipping. Soft drink came in bottles bought at the local grocery store or at a large city store on a shopping expedition. The shape of the bottles changed as did the stopper used to seal it.Historical: Change of bottles - shape, glass, stopper, embossing, use. The tapered half is embossed with 7 wavy circles going around the circumference. The bakelite stopper has a rectangular shaped grip to make it easier to screw.Embossed around the bottom near the base "This bottle remains the property of W. Woodroofe Ltd. Norwood S.A." And above this - embossed: 'A1857' and further along a '4'soft drink bottle;

This lantern would have been attached to a horse-drawn coach for lighting purposes and local coaches and other large-size horse-drawn vehicles would have had similar lights. It is a heavy object and may also have been used on early model automobiles or other motorised vehicles.This item has no known local provenance and is retained for display and research purposes.This is cylindrical metal lantern painted black. It has a glass covering on the rounded face and glass inserts on the back and the side. It has a metal-covered candle that is inserted into the lantern through an opening at the base. This candle mould was used in the past to make six candles. Molten wax or tallow, together with a central thread or cotton, were poured into the columns and when set were removed from the moulds. Until the advent of electricity in the 1920s in Warrnambool, candles, lanterns and lamps were an important source of lighting in homes. Few homes had gas lighting. Many householders made their own candles from waste fat etc. This mould is retained as an example of the way householders in the past made their own candles to assist lighting in the home. This is a mould with a rectangular base and six cylindrical hollow columns with pointed ends affixed to the mould base. The columns are topped by a rectangular metal tray with the openings of the columns in the base of the tray. There is a metal clip attached to one end of the tray. This blazer pocket is from Ann (Price) Royal's Clarendon Presbyterian Ladies College blazer. Ann attended CPLC 1947 - 1957. Blazer pockets were embroidered with the school crest and additional embroidery was added during a student's years at College to reflect school colours and leadership roles. School colours were awarded for participation and leadership in various sport, house and academic pursuits. Ann's pocket, and the accompanying authorisation receipt reflect her receipt of the following awards: Athletics Colours (1952 - 1957), Hockey Colours (1954 - 1957) , Cairns House colours, school colours (1957) as well as leadership roles as Prefect (1957), House Captain (1957) and Sports Captain (1956). Students removed their pockets after graduation to keep as a momento of their school years. The authorisation receipt indicates that Ann's family chose not to have the final embroidery for Aths 1957, Hockey 1957 added to the pocket - probably because these awards would have been identified at the end of Ann's final school year. This dress was possibly manufactured by a local seamstress in the period circa early 1900.The quality of the dress suggests that the lady who wore it was from middle to upper range of the socio-economic structure within the Kiewa ValleyHistorically this item dating in the early 1900s was made by a very competent seamstress (lack of manufacturer's label). It demonstrates that the conditions of relative isolation within the Kiewa Valley was not extreme and that local manufacture of clothing items were available and at a very high level of quality.
