Bottle - Soft Drink

Historical information

Soft drink came in bottles bought at the local grocery store or at a large city store on a shopping expedition. The shape of the bottles changed as did the stopper used to seal it.

Significance

Historical: Change of bottles - shape, glass, stopper, embossing, use.
Aesthetic: Display showing embossing and shape.

Physical description

Clear glass bottle with straight sides half way up tapering gently to a round opening. The tapered half is embossed with 7 wavy circles going around the circumference. The bakelite stopper has a rectangular shaped grip to make it easier to screw.

Inscriptions & markings

Embossed around the bottom near the base "This bottle remains the property of W. Woodroofe Ltd. Norwood S.A."
And above this - embossed: 'A1857' and further along a '4'
