Hann Shire (1879-1919) was the local government area for the Palmer River goldfield, between 70 km and 150 km west of Cape Tribulation. Access from the coast was via Cooktown, 100 km to the north-east. In 1872 an expedition led by William Hann explored the interior of Cape York Peninsula. Her parents were William Carr, a blacksmith from London and Jane Jamieson of Kilbirnie, Scotland. She arrived in Sandhurst in June, 1854 with her parents and her sister Sarah. Sarah drowned in October 1854, in a waterhole at Maiden Gully. Annie married Louis Searle in 1871 and went on to have 14 children. Blue envelope addressed to ''Mr Dave and George Harris, Axedale. Letter written from Dobie, near Ararat, where Ching family had moved from Axedale. Walter Ching's parents,Walter William and Harriet Ching are buried in the Bendigo Cemetery, MON H6. Walter Ching was killed in Action in WW1- 8.10.1917, aged 21. No known grave.
