A report submitted by the Sub-Committee appointed at the meeting of 20th April 1956 to be considered on 1st May 1957 at the Melbourne Town Hall meeting. Legatee James Gillespie advised that the original author selected to write the biography of Sir Stanley Savige had withdrawn, and Legatee Gillespie offered four alternative authors for the Committee to choose from. Part of the paperwork chronicling the early planning for the biography, which was eventually written by W.B. Minutes of the Second Meeting of the Committee held on 1 May 1957, which discussed the report tendered by Legatee Gillespie (00716) and confirmed W.B. Russell as the author of the biography. Sir Edward "Weary" Dunlop appears to be pinning a badge on ex-footballer Ron Barassi. It was in the Melbourne City square, there is a Legacy Banner behind them. A tug of war held in Melbourne City Square to promote Legacy Week in 1992. Other photos at 01797 mentions it was a Legacy team against a media team. Ron Barassi can be seen at the end of the rope of the Legacy team. The judge appears to be Sir Weary Dunlop. Another photo shows a staff member (Susie Howard?) and radio personalities also competing - possibly the Fox FM crew that helped in other events. Ron Barassi was a Legacy Boy after losing his father and has helped promote Legacy many times at events. Weary Dunlop has also been active in promoting Legacy and participating in Legacy events. Legacy hold an Anzac Commemoration Service for Students every year. For many years it was simultaneously broadcast on the ABC radio stations around the State for students that could not attend. The label on the tape reel says '1958 ABC Anzac OBS' in pencil. It is likely that it is one of the annual "Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students" events, usually held just prior to Anzac Day. The ceremony provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation of the Anzac spirit, the significance of the Shrine and the meaning of Anzac Day. The ceremony was usually broadcast on the ABC for students that could not attend. The inscription 'The story of the Yarra' is to be confirmed when tape found again as it doesn't appear on the Media image. The eighth meeting of the committee held on 6 April 1959 to decide upon publishing details. From the minutes it is clear that Longmans had been selected as the publisher with 3000 copies to be printed in the first run, but only 1000 copies would be bound. The retail price was fixed at 25/-. Minutes from the 11th meeting of the committee held at Legacy House on 15 July 1960 reveals that 2000 copies of the book had been sold but sales were slowing. Because minutes of the 9th and 10th committee meetings are missing, information on the project is incomplete, but these minutes refer to the fact that the author wanted his loan of $1000 to be refunded, reversing his advice in the minutes of the 15 December 1958. A collection of 60 poems written by legatees. Most are written by a legatee with initials L.F.J. and some by Legatee Hugh Brain. Most were published in the Bulletin between 1989 and 1991. They have been removed from the ring binder.The Legatee who penned these poems sought to record the activities of Legatees and their activities in verse. Photos of an Army Logistic Command Lake Relay with Legacy being the beneficiary of the proceeds raised totally $21,000. The accompanying label explains it is an annual sporting event on the defence calendar. It was held at Albert Park Lake on 27 September 1995. Legatee President David Millie, attended the event and collected the 'small' cheque on Legacy's behalf. The label also says "Our warm thanks to the Army Logistics Command Lake Relay Committee members and all the sponsors." Ron Barassi also attended the event. Ron was a great ambassador for Legacy for many years.
