Football was played on rough surfaces which had holes and mud. The goal posts were timber props positioned much further apart than they are today. It was then that Michael Mulqueen became the sole proprietor of the parlour with his brother John in charge of stables - an integral part of the business as many of the cabs were hired from the ranks next to the Shamrock Hotel.
