Japanese Surrender Ceremony at MOROTAI on 9 Sept 1945. Japanese Officer in the dark uniform is Lieutenant General Fusataro TESHIMA, Leader of the Japanese 2nd Army. The second man is a Japanese Naval Officer Captain Toru OYAMA. The Australian Officer at the table is Lieutenant General Frank BERRYMAN, a member of Blamey's staff. This is a picture of the original Town Hall building built in High Street in the 1890's. It was designed by renowned Bendigo Architect W.C .Vahland. This picture was taken in 1979 when the Echuca Library was housed there. The Echuca Library operated out of this building from 1965 up to 2013 when the new library was built. In this photograph there are two people standing in the doorway and two cars parked in the street.This photograph is significant because it shows the first Town Hall building built in High Street in the late 1890's. The building was designed by W.C Vahland and was also used as the Law Courts before the Law Court building was built in Law Court Place. This building has also been used as the High School, while the Echuca High School was being built in the 1920's it was also used as a Kindergarten and the town Library operated there from 1965 to 2012 when the new Library was built. The owner was John Conrad Brown NR 706 of the 38 Bn. He was severely wounded in action (GSW to face and left arm). He returned to Australia and was pensioned off. The owner had this artwork in his house at Goornong until a storm blew the roof off. It was important to him.This is a large black and white print depicting a scene in the Amiens battle. It shows Australian and German men fighting. A small stone bridge is near the centre of the work. High explosive blasts are depicted in the picture. It is finely detailed i.e. buttons on uniforms and dovetail joints in the ammunition box. It is set in a thick card mat. Under the image is the caption. The frame is a simple heavy timber type. John Raymond Bruns (Jack) enlisted in the 38th Bn CMF date unknown or "V" number at this point. A family photo shows the marriage of Jack to Margaret Joyce (Peggy) Ball dated 10.3.1942. The 38th Bn were part of the 6th INF Brigade and they moved to WA in March 1942 for Garrison duties. By the DVA roll he enlists in Geraldton on 23.7 1942 with the number VX88627. The unit relocates to the NT in January 1943. He is discharged from the Army on 13.4.1944 with the rank of Cpl in 6th Inf Brigade Dep Platoon. This is a set of five photographs of vehicles used by field survey parties. c1950s. The first two photos show unidentified surveyors and field survey vehicles departing the Army Survey Regiment’s transport compound. The third photo of LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood and CAPT Jim Stedman was taken at a field survey camp at Camooweal, QLD. LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood was the CO of the Army Survey Regiment from 1951 to 1962. As the longest serving commanding officer of the unit, there was many changes implemented. LTCOL Lindsay Lockwood’s period as CO is covered in more detail in pages 48-49 of Valerie Lovejoy’s book 'Mapmakers of Fortuna – A history of the Army Survey Regiment’ ISBN: 0-646-42120-4. CAPT Jim Stedman later reached the rank of Colonel, was Director of Military Survey from 1975 to 1978 and was appointed as Colonel Commandant (honorary appointment, Retd) of the Royal Australian Survey Corps from 1978 to 1983.
