Article, Vale Legatee Raymond Morgan Hall / Vale Legatee William Joseph Newing, 1970
A page from a Weekly Bulletin in 1970 farewelling two Legatees. It was in a folder of documents about the history of Legacy. So their service may have been particularly important. The folder appears to have been mostly compiled by Legatee Cyril Smith as he has many hand written notes on miscellaneous pieces of paper (some are envelopes addressed to him). The notes were typed up into a summary of the History of Legacy. Also documents relating to the first time Legacy approached the public for donations in September 1956, including newspaper articles that were reprinted, a schedule of information that was approved to be released to the press, and a list of potential donors that was circulated to Legatees in the hope they could contact the ones they knew personally or professionally. The documents from this folder have been added in seperate records (see 01262 to 01282). The folder was part of an attempt to capture history of Legacy, generally from the 1950s.These obituaries were kept with historical documents though the reason is unclear. The documents provide an insight into the working of Legacy, especially in the 1950s. Legatee Cyril Smith and others were detailing their experiences and knowledge for the future.Foolscap page from the Weekly Bulletin in 1970 to farewell two well known Legateeshistory, obituary -

Document, The "Junior Legacy, Melbourne" Special Appeal 1956, 1956
This letter to Legatees was issued with the Weekly Bulletin on 28 August 1956, this was just before the first ever appeal to the public for donations. The letter outlines the purpose of the Appeal and how it will be launched by the Governor Sir Dallas Brookes and the timeline. Also that it had support from four leading newspapers and radio stations. It mentions a brochure "the Legacy Boy" and a brochure depicting the new building that will be mailed to Companies that Legatees had contacted (see 01264). The newsletter appears to be a normal example of the Weekly Bulletin. This was in a folder of documents about the history of Legacy. Appears to have been mostly compiled by Legatee Cyril Smith as he has many hand written notes on miscellaneous pieces of paper (some are envelopes addressed to him). The call for public donations was partially due to the purchase of the Dureau building and the need to modify the building for Legacy's needs. The documents from this folder have been added in seperate records (see 01262 to 01282). The folder was part of an attempt to capture history of Legacy, generally from the 1950s.The documents provide an insight into the working of Legacy, especially in the 1950s. Legatee Cyril Smith and others were detailing their experiences and knowledge for the future. Article, History of Anzac Ceremony of Remembrance for Students, 2015
Two pages from an edition of the Bulletin on 5 March 2015. It shows the 1932 Legacy Anzac Commemoration for Students at the temporary Cenotaph in Spring Street. The article by David Cull has some of the history of the service. He uses a quote by Legatee Rupert Heley from 1940. “This service has for us a much greater meaning than one of remembrance only. It calls to us to face the unknown future as the men of ANZAC did, with courage and determination to resolve that we will do our utmost to keep this great country of ours free and to uphold the principals of justice, mercy and truth . . . “ “The future of this country lies in your hands. You have a life in front of you. You are only beginning. Keep on doing your best, - face difficulties with a cheerful grin. There is such lots to be done and such lots of fun to had in doing simple things, - such satisfaction in helping others. Uphold the tradition of ANZAC, and resolve that you will do your utmost to make this world a better and kindlier place .. “ “In the days which lie ahead we need above all things courage and determination and that spirit of ANZAC which we remember today.”A record of some of the history of the Legacy student commemoration. Two printed black and white pages of the Bulletin from 2015 with old picture of student commemoration service.anzac commemoration for students, cenotaph -

Article, VALE Enez Domec-Carre - 31st March 1908 to 17th April 1998, 1998
Miss Enez Domec-Carre was the teacher of the girls classes at Legacy. This article was based on the Eulogy given by Legatee Ted Larkin at her funeral on 21st April 1998. She was a former Miss Victoria and was known for her physical education skills and for introducing grace and culture to Melbourne. In 1932 she joined Melbourne Legacy and in 1934 became the chief instructor of girls' physical education until she retired aged 65. In the post World War II baby boom the Legacy evening classes were attended by about 400 girls. She helped organise Legacy Widows and Legatee wives to sew the costumes for performances. Among her proudest moments was a display by 1000 Junior Legatees at the MCG during the 1954 visit of Queen Elizabeth II. As well her work for Legacy she ran physical education, ballroom dancing and debutante preparation classes in Windsor, Elsternwick, Gardenvale and Geelong. She also held a position on the Board of Studies and as director of physical education in Catholic Schools. Recognition of her work included being awarded an MBE in 1971. And in 1997 she received Legacy's highest award, the title of Guest of Honour, for her years of service. See also Cat.No. 01300.
