This commemorative signature panel was signed by athletes who competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The panels were originally housed in Woolmark Woolshed located in the Expo area of the Olympic Games site during the games. The Wesleyan Church, Denham Street in Lower Hawthorn, as the area was then called, was opened on 2 May 1886. The building was designed by Geelong architect William Henry Cleverdon and was built of brick in the Gothic style. Its dimensions were 55 x 33 ft and the façade incorporated a rose window and spire 50 ft high. A wooden vestry was placed to the rear. The building and the organ were seriously damaged by fire on 1 April 1970, started by a painter's blowtorch. John Lundy-Clarke grew up in the Kalorama/Mt Dandenong area and later in life (1972-74) began to write a comprehensive history of the area working from an original settlement map in an effort to cover all areas. This photograph shows approximately the same area as photograph number KAL0193 but is taken 60 years later. The trees have grown much taller and the buildings changed. On the site of the Paynter house 'Iona' there is now the 'Yosemite' (Villa Toscana) accommodation. The pavilion in the centre of the photo is the site of 'Kalorama', home of early pioneer Isaac Jeeves. Ivy May Child is standing 3rd from the right. The other people are unidentified as yet. Ivy May Child (1910 – 1989) was the daughter of Arthur Edward (Ted) Child (1878 – 1964) and Ethel May Madden (1888 – 1970). Ted Child was the son of Matthew Francis Child (1839 – 1933) and Martha Jeeves (1857 – 1926). He was the grandson of one of the early pioneers Francis Child. Ivy grew up on the family property on Childs Road and took many photographs.
