Two small copies of War Workers' Woolcraft - Knitting and Spinning books: one with a red paper cover and the other with a faded khaki coloured paper cover. 1. The red front cover book shows the title printed inside a black cloud shape with a black lined illustration of a ball of wool underneath. The Country Women's Assoc. South Aust. is printed on the cover inside a round shaped black crest. It is compiled by The Country Women's Association of Victoria and sponsored by the Australian Wool Board. RAEME Corps was first established in 1942 when the Ordnance Corps and the Service Corps were combined. This uniform was donated by a RAEME member who served during the Vietnam War. The Corps began sending advisers to Vietnam in 1964 and this foreshadowed a massive build- up of RAEME personnel and equipment which peaked in 1971. The first direct RAEME support was provided in early 1965 as part of 1 Aust Logistic Support Coy (1 ALSC). Prior to 1971 the RAEME elements of 1 Australian Logistic Support Group built up to a stage where there were two field workshops. The withdrawal of all Australian forces was completed in 1972 and RAEME reverted to its peacetime role.This uniform was worn by a member of the Wodonga community who served with RAEME during the Vietnam War. RAEME Corps members are also represented at the Army Logistic Training Centre at Bandiana.Australian Military uniform - this uniform was issued during Australia's involvement in the Vietnam war. This is a report prepared by the Director of the Royal Australian Survey Corps Brigadier L Fitzgerald OBE, FIS Aust for presentation at the Institution of Surveyors, Australia, 6th Survey Conference held in Adelaide in March 1962. This document mentions the beginning of mapping in 1907 in the Australian Intelligence Corps and how the Survey Corps was formed in 1915. The story continues until 1962. In 1943 Australian Army engineers; the 2/1 and 2/16 Field Company RAE, 9th Australian Field Company (AIF), veterans of Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Greece and Crete, the 1st and 3rd Australian Pack Transport Companies and local Papuan labour cut the road with pickaxes and dynamite over a period of eight months. During five months of operations over seventy per cent of the 2/1 Australian Field Company contracted malaria.Seventeen bridges were constructed; mostly single, but at least one with multiple spans. More than two thousand Australian army personnel and over two thousand Papuans and New Guineans were involved during nine months of construction. Thus the road, acclaimed as the greatest military engineering feat ever, was completed and for the only time in history motor vehicles crossed the high rugged mountains of Papua New Guinea. This musical instrument belonged to Donald Robert McDonald who was a member of a prominent South Warrnambool family. As his army service number is on the case it is presumed that he had the musical instrument with him during his wartime service (World War Two). Donald Robert McDonald (b. 1908) enlisted in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. He was a bombardier in the 2/4 Aust. Composite A/A Regiment.The instrument is significant because it belonged to a member of a prominent South Warrnambool family. It had historical and social significance as an example of the musical entertainment common in the 1940s (perhaps Donald McDonald played in a local band or a military band)Silver-coloured soprano saxophone; end taped with mouthpiece missing; Black case for holding a musical instrument made of moulded cardboard and lined with black velvet. On the 27th March, 1942 'Fortuna House' was occupied by LHQ Cartographic Company, Australian Survey Corps. Fortuna was the site of the base map plant and during this time approximately sixteen million maps of Australian Territories in the South West Pacific area were produced for use by the Allied Services. Fortuna was purchased in 1951 by the Commonwealth Government and until 1970 the Survey Corps and Regiment became part of community life in the district.
