Norm Cooper served in WW1 then worked in the State Electricity Commission (Victoria). He lived in Ringwood (later Balwyn) played football, cricket, tennis and was a member of the Children's Hospital Auxiliary. Collection donated by Annette Rattray - a distant relative.Obituaries and photographs relating to the life of Norman H. Cooper. Collection includes summary of Military Service and association with Ringwood branch of the Victorian State Electricity Commission. -

Yields information about the installation of the service pits in the depot during 1935/1936 and the methods usedSet of 2 Black and white photo prints from collected negatives of the construction of service pits and the pit for the wheel grinder at the SEC Ballarat depot building, during refurbishment by the SEC during the 1935/ 1936. 1352.1 - Formwork being set up for the service pit in No. 1 road at the SEC depot. 1352.2 - finished concrete walls for pit and wheel grinder on No. 4 road at the SEC depot, but not yet fully backfilled. No. 12 at the front of the depot and two other single truckers on adjacent tracks. 2nd copy held of 1352.2 ex moveable display boards. Colour photocopies laminated of these photographs on display 6/2000 at 02-02-06. 3rd copy of 1352.2 added 14-08-2006. See Reg Item 3806 for a photograph of the grinder in use. Yields information about fares charged for tram services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Issued to crews.Twenty page booklet, plus medium weight card light blue colour covers centre stapled. Book cover has title "Electric Tramways of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, By-Law No. 11". Along the bottom edge is the date, "August 1951" and SEC print number - "TYE 1-27" Pages are numbered pages 1 to 20. Document give by-laws and amends the fare schedules for Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo. Dated by the SEC 19/7/1951 to come into effect 1/7/1951 Details names of SEC Commissioners on rear page. Yields information about the style and printing of tickets used in Ballarat and Bendigo tramways and how they were presented.1721 - Block of 200 tickets - black ink on off white paper, denomination 13c, lettered B278000 to B 278199, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Provincial Tramways. On rear in black ink is a SEC advertisement "ELECTRICITY makes life easier" with the SEC's little boy wrapped in a towel logo. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink. 1721.1 - ditto - B276200 to 276399 1721.2 - ditto - B282400 to 282599 See reference file for further information. Note. The 13c ticket was green from 1/9/1966 until the fare change in Jan. 1969. Details the history of the Bendigo system, take over by the SEC and the conditions of that take over by the SEC, reconstruction, financial losses incurred by the SEC, decline in passengers, its suitability, condition of the infrastructure and rolling stock. Its unsuitability to extend, effectiveness of the Geelong conversion, ability of private bus operators, tramway employees, methods of abandonment, tram tracks, overhead and impact on the electricity supply system. Has a table showing the income and losses and population from 1935 to 1967, a coloured graphical presentation of tramway statistics, sheet of Fares and Charges for Ballarat. Yields information about the drawings that were used by the depot or workshop staff as reference drawings. Has a strong association with the depot workshop staff. Yields information about equipment on Ballarat tramcars and Signalling.Folder containing 46 blueprints or Dyeline prints of SEC tram equipment drawings. Front of folder made from a cloth back sheet of paper extended to secure to a thick cardboard runner. Rear of folder made from an old tram advertising panel or cardboard sheet, cut to size and secured to a thick cardboard runner with a cloth backing on both sides. Sheets secured with three brass screwed clips. Front cover damaged in bottom right hand corner. Rear cover breaking apart on outside around cloth binding. Heavy dirt marks from “grease” on bottom half of rear cover. Contains 46 drawings which have been individually catalogued and numbered on the rear of each drawing within the folder. Some of the drawings have been folded. Black and white print of bogie tram No. 22 and another single trucker at the City terminus, Sturt St, with the Town Hall in the background. A large number of passengers board and leaving the trams. Has a bus in the distance crossing Sturt St.. Tram has the destination of Sturt St. West. In the photograph are Anderson Paper Merchants, Terminus Cafe and Penfolds Wine shop. In the bottom right hand corner is an ESCo/SEC cable termination/switch box. 3217.1 - original photo ex SEC? 3217.2 - different crop - added 21/3/2021 - has more of the original image on the right side. On rear of photograph is a white dot with "5" in red ink, and in pencil "Car 22, renumbered as 37 in 1951 in order to consolidate the bogies cars from No. 34 onwards. This was the first bogie car to run in Ballarat and ran from 1945. Sheet steel folded to give a top & bottom strengthening. With SEC green paint on back, yellow painted face & lettered PAY AS YOU ENTER in black paint. Used on each tram to indicate to boarding passengers, to pay the motorman as they entered the tram. If not in use was turned to face away from boarding passengers. Ballarat trams fitted with wooden slides on either side of drivers windows, so that they could face the respective open door. Also use by the BTM for similar purposes. Has been repainted by SEC - can see where painted over previous chips.trams, tramways, secv, fares, tramcar operations
