"Surburban tickets of the Victorian Railways - H K Atkinson" published 1991 notes on page 123 "Edmondson tickets issued from trams were held in small pouches in the conductor's bag and were punched with a special date punch (ie. 1 to 31) to denote the day of issue." It is thought that the month would have been used as well, otherwise people could recycle tickets for each day of the month. No punch yet seen by the Museum. Tram line up at the depot with the same personnel (Item 9235), in formal poses in each photo. They are attired in the MESCo uniform that suggests that the photographs were taken before the State Electricity Commission of Victoria takeover on 1 September 1930. The ex-Melbourne Meadowbank cars 27 and 28 first ran in Geelong in 1928. Date of the photos would therefore be restricted to 1928-30, but it is possible that they were taken close to or on the handover date as a final record. The photograph shows Ballarat No. 40 running into the depot on 19/9/1971 following its last trip at the time of the closure of the SEC-operated Ballarat tram system. The word "End" can be seen on one of the doors - when they closed it formed part of the expression "The End".
