Two pieces of heavy brown leather about 4mm thick joined together with a lighter piece of brown leather glued and stitched with heavy thread to form a Trip Way Bill Holder for use on the SEC trams by Conductors. The outside of the folder has been tanned to give a dark brown tan. The inside of the folder has been stained light brown. The outer corners of the folder have been rounded. The folder has been scribed by a tool to give the item some presentation. Not known who made it, could have been SEC Depot Ballarat, upholstery workers.On the inside in the top left hand corner "Trip Way Bill Holder" in blue ink. Dark green cloth enveloping two pieces of cardboard, joined together with the cloth, printed on the outside with the MMTB logo and the words "Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board / EMPLOYEE'S PASS / 1947". On the inside, two pre printed pieces of off white paper have been glued to the cloth covered cards. The top card has been over stamped using a hand stamp machine with the Number "8478" and overprinted in purple ink " ' 47". Space for the name of the employee, occupation and for authorising signature of the Board Secretary has been provided. The bottom section details the conditions of use and space for the employees signature. Ticket issued to "L. J. Denmead", "Inspector" and signed by "R.A. Spencer"? as Board Secretary and signed by "Leslie Denmead". All entries made in black ink. These passes would have been issued as part of the conditions of employment. Demonstrates aspects of the Melbourne Tramways fare system as a comparison to their use at Ballarat.Fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 22mm diameter - dark brown celluloid - with words "Melbourne & Metropolitan" on circumference and "Tramways Board" in centre of token. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at to the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. Both sides have a edge lining border about 1mm from the outer edge. Stamped enamelled round brass piece with a hole stamped at the top and ring placed through. Used as a SEC tramways employees pass. Has the SEC logo in the centre, organisational name (State Electricity Commission of Victoria) in white enamelled and outer ring the words "Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways". This was in blue enamel. On rear stamped the number "127" Was issued to Mr. Adam Balloch, carpenter with the SEC depot. Gives details of the definitions, fares and charges, sale of tickets, regulating number of passengers, stopping places, nuisances, smoking, dangerous goods, luggage and goods, general matters and fares broken into adult fares for each section and Children's fares and Pensioners' Concession fares for both Ballarat and Bendigo. Note - introduced decimal currency into the fares as well as pence. Document number on front cover "TYE 1-270". This by-law replaced or revoked all previous by-laws and amendments. Came in effect 1/10/1965 with a fare rise. Received Governor In Council approval on 24/8/1965. These fares have been amended in pencil for Ballarat. The amendment pasted into the rear of the booklet is dated 2nd August. 1966 and came into effect on 1/9/1966. 1297.1 - ditto, but actual used copy by D. J. Everett - see Reg.
