Howman's Gap camp was erected in 1948. The proposed dam to be built at this site was postponed in 1954 because of financial restraints imposed by the government at this time. It was to have supplied water for No. 2 Power Station at the Junction of the Pretty Valley and Rocky Valley branches of the East Kiewa River. This power station was not constructed until 2008 - 2010 and now gets it water from McKay Creek Power Station. The site of this camp is now occupied by the Howman's Gap Alpine Centre. Some of the original buildings still remain. Maps - Educational x 10 and Kiewa Scheme x1
Maps were used to teach children geography, the explorers, the minerals, the world etc. The school bought and stored the maps so that they were available for use. This predated electronic devices. The KHE Works map was hand drawn showing lots of detail.These maps were used by the Bogong Primary School. The Kiewa Hydro Electric Works was built by the SECV and produced hydro power. This map may have been used by pupils as well as workers on the Works. Large coloured maps on canvas, with a wooden beam along the top and bottom. Each one has a cord attached to the top so that the map may be hung up on a wall. Some are made by Chas. H. Scally & Co., Baronia Ave., Wollstonecraft, N.S.W. White tape lace on a card which is enclosed in a large illustrated envelope. The mid 19th century 'Renaissance Lace' is wound around cardboard which is in the large envelope. The lace depicts five petaled daisies with an eyelet on each side. The envelope is illustrated with drawings of snowdrops. It opens on the front with small snowdrops drawn around the square opening. Scottish miller and immigrant, John Eadie established his water-driven flour mill on Jacksons Creek in Sunbury in 1861.To make of a sufficient water supply to operate the mill, he built a weir and a water-race to drive it. Some of these can be seen today. The machinery for the mill was bought from Scotland and transported here. The mill continued to operate until 1914. At that time the 20 ton metal wheel and the iron roofing removed to aid the war effort.This mill is one of a number that were built along the water courses in the Sunbury-Bulla area to process the wheat grown in the area.A non-digital black and white photograph in post card format of a an old bluestone mill building sited on the bank of a watercourse in a deep valley with bare hills in the background. The remains of the water wheel are at the rear of the building.
