Handwritten copy of items for the Newsletter. Included is Machinery Contractor Called to Task. He took a lot longer to do the work than he should have. Boys Will Be Boys tells of a boy who was supposed to driving the whim horse, but in the absence of the braceman, he amused himself by taking a truck out of the cage and putting it back again. Then he started stepping backwards and forwards by holding onto a rope across the shaft, then fell down the shaft. He got a severe shaking. Cheers and Groans are about the long hours the miners worked and the introduction of the 8 hour day. Primitive Shafts is about the Victoria Reef Shafts. Yields information about No. 25 (one of the best side on photographs of this tram) and the fitting or trial of roof advertisements that was a prominent feature of SEC trams from the late 1950's onwards. Noted in an actual photograph, only one roof advertisement fitted.Black and white print of a photograph of No. 25 in the SEC Ballarat depot yard fitted with two blank advertising boards on the roof. Understood prepared to give details to prospective advertisers or to show management how arrangements could be made. Advised by Ron Scholten on 2/12/2013, that "Alan Davis (Vic) Advertising" was the SEC's advertising agent and it has long been defunct. Photo taken late 1950's. Richard Walter, butcher, operated a butchery in Bridge St., Bendigo. The shop was part of the Australian Hotel. It was operating in 1857 when Walter advertised for a sausage maker. In 1863 the business was sold to Ceber and Robertson. At this time he sold five lots including, land at California Gully, 32 acres at Ellesmere, the Australia Hotel including a coopers, chemist and stables all leased to reliable tenants. In 1865 he was granted 50 square miles south of Charleville, near Murweh on the Warrego River. It was here that he died 24/8/1869 when he accidentally fell into the river and drowned.Small notebook (initial pages have been removed) with 1859 Almanac on internal covers.
