The crowd are gathered around the former Rupertswood gun which originally was a piece of field equipment used by the Rupertswood Battery. The Clarke family eventually gave it the the residents of Sunbury. The events of the afternoon included lunch for the bandsmen at the Memorial Hall, a street march to the Park, and performances at the Park, concluding with a massed march back to town. 10 bands from the surrounding districts participated. Preston Technical School opened in 1937. Magazines held include 1951-1960. The school changed its name to Preston Technical College and magazines held for this entity range from 1963-1967. Preston Institute of Technology: Girls' section magazines for 1968 and 1969. Rutherglen had a regular event called Back to Rutherglen where by a committee was formed to organise Sporting events usually during Easter. The purpose was a means of raising money for various projects in the town, such as building the Soldiers Memorial Hall and in later years a Queen Competition was held to raise funds towards building the Swimming Pool. Letter dated August 17th, 1921 from David Langlands Chair of the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Hall Committee, Wangaratta Branch advising the work has been completed and the memorial tablets and stone in commemoration of those that gave their lives and those who served from the town and district have been erected within the Hall however a further 150 pounds was required to complete the payment and asking for aid in this matter. The people in the photograph are from L-R: Ken Nevant, Flora Lloyd, who was the daughter of the local chemist, Norman Hoiles, Pat Barrow, Jean Hall and Lachlan Mason, who was Ken Nevant's half brother.
