The town of Tawonga is in the Kiewa Valley surrounded by farmland. It is adjacent to Mt Beauty (built from 1946), an SECV town built for the workers on the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme which was being constructed from 1911-1961. Tawonga consisted of essential amenities including a store, school, butter factory, sporting facilities, post office, hall and hotel. Activities involved sport, social get togethers eg. dances, fundraising, CWA etc. The posters are a collection of historical photos, documentation and information regarding the history of the town of Tawonga, which is the centre of a farming community in the Kiewa Valley.Posters framed with thin black plastic strip, covered, by glass. Poppies were made from wool, both knitted and crocheted, by a group of women in Bendigo who worked on the task at the Bendigo RSL Havilah Road, Bendigo. The crowd are gathered around the former Rupertswood gun which originally was a piece of field equipment used by the Rupertswood Battery. The Clarke family eventually gave it the the residents of Sunbury. The events of the afternoon included lunch for the bandsmen at the Memorial Hall, a street march to the Park, and performances at the Park, concluding with a massed march back to town. 10 bands from the surrounding districts participated. Preston Technical School opened in 1937. Magazines held include 1951-1960. The school changed its name to Preston Technical College and magazines held for this entity range from 1963-1967. Preston Institute of Technology: Girls' section magazines for 1968 and 1969. Rutherglen had a regular event called Back to Rutherglen where by a committee was formed to organise Sporting events usually during Easter. The purpose was a means of raising money for various projects in the town, such as building the Soldiers Memorial Hall and in later years a Queen Competition was held to raise funds towards building the Swimming Pool.
