Bag, School satchel - leather, Circa mid 20th century
A satchel used by students to carry their requirements to and fro between school and home. Typically it would contain lunch and a homework book generally a small exercise book which would contain the set work for the evening. They were sturdily and simply constructed so as to withstand the daily rigour of the school ground.A common object with which many people would identifyBrown leather satchel with gusset on either side. The surface has crocodile skin profile. Two leather straps with buckles on either side. The back has straps which are fastened with metal studs at the top and laced through slits at the bottom . The strap itself is joined with a buckle. One side has been restitched toward the bottom of the satchel.Four purple "Warrnambool and District Historical Society" stamps on the inside. The remnants of a name which is unreadable. "5620" in red on left hand side. This is a cotton webbing back-pack. It has a flap which has 2 straps to hold it shut. On the back are 2 x 50 mm short straps with 2 x 25mm brass buckles. At the bottom are two web straps sewn on both ends. This collar box belonged to a soldier in WW2 who lived in the local Shepparton area. Round tan coloured leather case, lined with cream and brown stripped cotton material; a small leather carry strap with outer edges sewn either side to the top of case and a separate strap across the top of the case to fix the case closed with buckle feature; the closing strap is broken away from the buckle hole area.early - mid c20th collar box -

Joe was a member of the 4th Light Horse. serving in Egypt with 4th Light Horse Field Ambulance and returned to Australia after serving 1060 days overseas in the troop ship Essex.This item is significant because Spurs have near original condition leather, and use the disk spur.
