In Part 7, Boyd begins by discussing the difference in cities, including age, population density and colours across Australia, Europe and America. Boyd discusses individual streets compared to the whole city and how the two are ultimately different and unique. He remarks that in Australia, the word 'city' is used to mean the whole 'complex' of city and suburbs, "a pattern reflecting free personal spending and yet a tight public purse". Boyd references Canberra as the Australian domestic dream come true. "Canberra is genuine Australian". He notes that the making of cities is not just a question of money. 'The Antipodes' a comedy by Richard Brome. He was an English dramatist, born c1590 and died September24 1652 in London, generally deemed the "most considerable of minor Jacobean playwrights". 'The Antipodes' was an "ingenious satirical comedy" considered Brome's masterpiece - folly, jealousy, melancholy, madness and discord. This play directed by Kim Durban is a play within a play travels with Peregrine to Botany Bay in 1789 where there is an imagined "upside-down paradise of masterless men." The main ingredient is Ballarat's magnificent Mining Exchange, haunted as it is by ghosts of earlier travellers. Associate Professor Catherine Laffey has been described as a changemaker and educationalist. In 1993 she was the ALP candidate for Ballarat Province, and stood as a candidate for the Australian Labor Party in the Legislative Council Province of Ballarat at the Victorian state election, which was held on 30 March 1996. On 18 March 1999 University Council approved the appointment of Ms Catherine Laffey to the Human Research Ethics Committee as a member co-opted from the TAFE Sector. In 2005 she was elected to University Council as the TAFE Representative, and around 2007 the Univesity of Ballarat Consultative Committee. Catherine Laffey was appointed Head of the School of Human Services in 2009.
