Dunstan Gates, Charlton Showgrounds. c.1960. Entrance gates to the Showgrounds (Charlton Park) on the Calder Highway. Named after Albert Dunstan, Victorian Premier. A public meeting was reported in the Charlton Tribune 1950, 19/05 deciding to erect a memorial to the late Sir Albert Dunstan. Setting an objective of 5000 pounds. The shire council had given 500 pounds as a lead. It was decided that a memorial gateway with a suitable plaque would be erected in front of Charlton Park in recognition of his service to Charlton, the electorate and the State.B/w photo of the Dunstan Gates c.1960. Sepia photo taken c.1890 of Charlton's first fire station. Fire station replaced in c.1930 with a £1200 Fire Station after inspection by Chief Officer Chellew. A wooden fire station with a tall bell tower. In front are 19 brigade members. There is also a horse drawn fire cart in front with 6 members on. 4 members have two hand drawn fire carts which are ready to roll out. Firemen are dressed in uniform.The sepia portrait photo is mounted on green card. Charlton Bakery established by Peter Klunder in 1876. Bakery owner in 1994 was Alan Tallentyre. Charlton Courier, previously the Charlton Tribune, closed c. 1996. East Charlton Hotel built 1875 by J. Flug was sold to G Luth in 1875 then to G Klug. The hotel was rebuilt in 1892 and 1925 (Spanish style). Luth's store was established by Flug in 1870's and sold to G Luth in 1875. G Paterson purchased the store and business in 1990's. Joseph Fanning - cordial manufacturer, wholesale and retail produce merchant. High Street, Charlton. Views of Charlton was a lithograph made by Rider and Mercer of Ballarat. A number of these were produced for various town. Charlton's was inserted into the local paper for distribution. The lithograph depicted local businesses within Charlton at the time about c.1892. The lithograph is stamped "with WM CURNOW Compliments". William Curnow owned the local store in Charlton at the time. The Globe Hotel built 1874-75 for John Walsh was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in ?. Leased by William Fowler in 1891 who had been in Charlton since 1877. Copy of Lithograph of Charlton buildings. The Charlton Gentleman's Club was established in 1900 by solicitor Ben Green. The original building had a narrow entrance off High St, between Egan & Spain's Grocery Shop and the Central Café. After fire damaged the buildings in the 1970s, the club was extended to its present size. The vacant block next door was formerly Clark's butcher's shop. Part of a series of streetscapes taken for the Charlton Shire in 1987. Charlton club was established in 1900 in a building with a narrow entrance off High Street between Egan and Spain's Grocery shop and the Central Cafe. After fire damaged the buildings in 1970's the Club was extended to its present size.
