Letter, Letter to Lily Howard from Charlie Callan, No. 1 Command Depot, 19 Januray 1918, 1918
Lieut. Charles James Callan, (bushman) a former member of the Caledonia Rifle Club, Queenstown, enlisted 2 August 1915 and was killed in action 29 September 1918 near Bony during an attack on the Hindenburg Line. He is buried in Ste Emilie Valley Cemetery, Villers-Faucon, France. First World War letters and postcards from various (unknown) servicemen written to Lily Thompson (Lew Howard's aunty). Arthur E. Woodley donated the WW1 Military Carbide Signal and General Purpose Lamp to Frankston RSL. It was given to Arthur E. Woodley of Crib Point during the 1960s by Captain Ivan E. Layton MBE who was then the Executive Officer of Melbourne Legacy. During WW2 Ivan Layton was secretary to General Blamey. Ivan Layton died on 15th September, 1979. The carbide workings of the lamp were removed because of corrosion, otherwise it is almost complete.WW1 Military Carbide Signal and General Purpose Lamp which is round and made of brass. The lamp has a latched and hinged brass top. Brass and wood hinged handle with knurled access knob which is situated at the top of the lamp. In between the handle uprights is a round chimney flu which allows heat to escape. Approximately one third down from the top of the lamp there is a brass side handle. Immediately to the left of the handle is a rectangular curved view port with brass cover. Directly opposite the side handle is a convex glass window. Air vents are located at the bottom of the lamp. Inside the top half of the lamp is a chamber which contains the carbide lamp and perpendicular sleeves for the insertion of coloured glass panels. Eltham Arbor Day, 10 October, 1973. School children of the Shire of Eltham planting trees with Alistair Knox in Eltham Town Park. Knox was a local architect and conservationist and councillor for the Shire of Eltham 1972-1975. The day was previously planned to take place during the visit of the Governor, Sir Rohan Delacombe to the Shire on 19th September, 1973 but cancelled that day due to inclement weather. Eltham Town Park would later be renamed Alistair Knox Park. This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book," Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection.' MS Princess of Tasmania was an Australian-built roll-on/roll-off passenger ship, built by the State Dockyard in Newcastle, New South Wales for the Australian National Line. Laid down on 15 November 1957, she was launched on 15 December 1958. The Princess of Tasmania sailed on her maiden voyage on 23 September 1959. On entering service, she was used on the Devonport to Melbourne route across Bass Strait. The ship continued operating until 1972, Five silver-plated forks and one spoon. The sugar spoon is a souvenir of the Princess of Tasmania. 1590.2 and .5 are narrow forks. 1590.3 and .4 have splayed tines. 1590.6 is a cake fork.On back of spoon : EP&NS *1 Various marks on backs of forks with EP&NScutlery silver-plated princess-of-tasmania -

Matilda tanks were ideal for supporting the infantry’s operations in the Pacific. Sandringham and Ellindale (now McKinnon Football Club) played off for the district premiership on the Friendly Societies Ground, Melbourne on 26 September 1908. Ellindale won the game but had to wait to see if they won a protest against Dandenong before they could claim that they had won the premiership. In the local paper, the Brighton Southern Cross on Saturday 10 October 190, it was reported that Ellindale were the premiers of the season. This medal was awarded to W. Advertisement for Freemans Staff Dance at the 'new' St Kilda Town Hall on 4 September 1940 with proceeds going to the St Kilda Patriotic Society. The St Kilda Town Hall opened in 1890 in incomplete form, comprising only the hall, the front wing and Carlisle Street wings. In 1925 the portico and elaborate internal stair-hall were added. This is believed to be the Stuerzenhofecker family who lived in Camp 3. This family lost 2 children whilst in the camp. The first accident occurred when their 2 year old boy, Hartmann (born 11 November 1944), was accidentally run over and killed by an Army truck on the 24 October 1946.A month later their 14 month old daughter, Heimtraut (born 19 September 1945), died of smoke inhalation in a hut fire on the 17 November 1946.Black and white photo of grave sites. Tribute of honor from the Carboor Welcome Home Committee and surrounding district, to Mr and Mrs John Nolan in appreciation of the service rendered to the Empire by their son Pte Evan Nolan who made the supreme sacrifice.- dated 1st February 1921. Service number 3436 Pte Evan Nolan aged 21 years died of wounds on September 20th 1918 in hospital at Rouen France. He served with the 59th Battalion and is buried at St Sever Cemetery in Rouen. Corporal Hugh Terence O'Reilly VX108560 was born in Temora, NSW on 25 September 1916. He later lived in Hampshire Road, Sunshine, Victoria, and enlisted at Sunshine with the Australian Army on 29 July 1942. He served in New Guinea, and at the time of discharge on 8 November 1945 was posted with the 22 Australian Infantry Battalion. Additional service number recorded is V37790. In civilian life Hugh Terence O'Reilly was employed in the manufacture of fibrous plaster boards.The significance is that the Shire of Braybrook, and perhaps other councils, recognised their citizens who served in the Australian Armed Forces during World War 2, by presenting them with Certificates in appreciation of their military service.Yellowish background. Grey scale diagrammatic image of warships, tank, and aeroplanes at the top. Vertical posts with swords and wreaths along the sides.
