Alexander Russell Simpson, the nephew of James Young Simpson, invented these forceps, which are also known as axis-traction forceps.Possibly collected by Dr Frank Forster. Examined and identified by Bryan Hibbard.Set of A.R.Simpson style forceps. Consists of two plated metal forcep blades with ebony handles. The inside of the handle of one blade is engraved with the text 'Left Lower first'. The inside of the handle of the second blade is engraved with the text 'J.GRAY & SON/SHEFFIELD'. "Infant Department The interest in this branch of the school work (under the able guidance of Misses F. Chapman and A.E. Ratten) is well maintained. It is largely through the generosity of Nr. and Mrs. Griffiths that the officers were enabled to have a new brick school hall built. The foundation stone was laid on 21st October, 1905, by Mrs. John M. Griffiths, the new building being erected on the site of the old church. It is both attractive and comfortable and is well lighted. It is also used for the week-night services. The old building which for so long had served as a schoolroom for the little ones was not considered suitable and was in 1905 disposed of for removal. When removed it was renovated, and is now used as a mission church in a neighbouring district." Marion Rosalie Mapperson, 1920-1946, was the daughter of the Mr and Mrs C Mapperson and was born in a home mission parsonage where she grew up to realise the presence and power of Jesus Christ. She became a fully-accredited local preacher then joined the staff of the Methodist Homes for Children at Cheltenham from there she began her training to be a Methodist Deaconess. Her funeral service was held at the Palmerston Street Church, Carton; it was conducted by the Warden of the Deaconess Institute, the Rev A W Pederick and Rev D W Risstrom.
