Historical information

This is one of a series of plaques which commemorated some of the winners of the Grand Annual Steeplechase which is held each year in Warrnambool. It is the longest race at a public course in Australia.The first Grand Annual was held in 1872 as the Warrnambool Handicap Steeplechase.This plaque denotes the victory of Knebsworth in 1895 one of three for owner Dan O'Brien winning again in 1900 with Butler followed in 1904 by Wooral.
