Yields information about one of the first two maximum traction bogie trams in Ballarat in October 1945 after it had been repainted for use in Ballarat by the SEC and the Lake / depot area at the time.Black and white photograph of SEC No. 15 in Wendouree Parade just to the south of St. Aidans Drive. Photo taken looking south with the trolley pole to the camera in the raised position. Appears to be a new trolley rope. Tram has destination of "Gardens via Drummond Nth". Possibly taken soon after receipt and repainting in Ballarat in 1945. "The Ballarat Tramways" notes that No. 15 arrived in Ballarat October 1945 and was renumbered to No. 36 in 1953. Print made by John Phillips c1995. Print used in the interpretation panel at Gardens Loop - believed to be an SEC photo. 2135.1 - as above by wider to the left, shows more the lake. Added 13/4/2009. Has been stamped for Dave Kellett's traffic number.Piece of chrome plated steel rod bent at 90 degrees and shaped at longer end to give a square shape for use in external doors on SECV Ballarat Trams - known as a square key. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC governance system in issuing By-laws for the travelling public, as part of their Act. Yields information about fares charged for tram services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Issued to crews.Small book with 32 pages, 27 printed on, with green cloth hard covers, sewn into cover. On front cover, printed in white ink is SECV name, logo, words, "Provincial Tramways", "Instructions for Tramway Traffic Inspectors", "Issued 1951", and a note that the book remains the property of the SEC. Inside cover as above with location for name and date to whom book was issued to. Indexed. Contents gives rules for behaviour, ticket checking procedures, reports, traffic supervision, safety and accidents. Copies 2 and 3 on display in cabinet in 39 since 1992 until 10/04. Copies 4, 5 and 6 - each have BTPS Catalogue Number written in on title page. (revised 12/8/05) Copy 7 - added 17/1/2007 - issued to Dave Kellett. Functional Object - Point Bar, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), 1960's
Length of 5/8ths of inch or approx. 15.5mm diameter steel bar, which has been heated and formed at one end to give an eye approx. 32mm internal diameter and hammered and ground to form a point edge at the opposite end forming a point bar. Used by Ballarat Tram crews to change tram track points. Standard equipment to all tramcars (two each). This particular point bar was reportedly located at the Lydiard St. and Sturt St. intersection for use by inspectors and other tram crew to change the points at this intersection without obtaining a point bar from the tramcar itself. Taken by a Brisbane Tramway Museum Society member at the time of closure. The point bar was repainted by the BTMS in the green colour scheme prior to presentation to the BTPS/BTM during the 1992 COTMA Perth Conference to Carolyn Dean. Demonstrates the way the SEC advised passengers in Ballarat and Bendigo how the fare and charges systems worked and yielded information about the fare charges in force at the time. A copy was provided in each tram behind framed glass.Printed sheet and mounted onto at least two other sheets of heavy blank paper to form a poster of a drawing showing Bendigo Tramways (SEC) Fares, Charges, and Section Map. Also gives charges for Scholar's Monthly tickets, Luggage, Parcels, Newspapers and Chartered trams. Fares in shillings and pence and decimal currency. Magazine cutting contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 31, titled "History of the Ballarat Tramways" from the Feb. 1939 issue of the "SEC Magazine". Report on a recent paper by H.P. James to the Historical Society about the experimental battery tram in Ballarat in October 1888. Notes that Duncan and Fraser input into the Julien Battery experiment, Mr. Bullimore the electrician and trails and problems with the track.
