Album - Photo Album, Newstar, 1960s to 1970's
Photographic album containing 39 Colour postcards of Melbourne trams. The album consists of 30 leaves of dark grey heavy paper with three creases on left hand side of sheet, bound into a heavy bluey grey folder, embossed in gold 'Scrap Book" and bound with bluey grey string with two holes. The cover has been embossed with a the blue grey in swirls. Inside of back cover is a white label, "A New Star Product", with a please ask for No. with "425" stamped on. Postcards have been glued into the album. Entries have been kept to a single line - cards are able to be dated from buildings, whether the trams have marker lights, types of motor cars and general Melbourne history. Image files in page number order. Image 15 is of book. All taken with a electronic camera. Page 1 - Night photo - Flinders and Swanston St. - with "Greetings from Huntingdale" embossed in gold. Uniform - Coat Button/s, Stokes & Sons and Melbourne
Demonstrates the manufacture of uniform items and their use in uniforms for tramway crews in Ballarat and a larger set and a strong association with a SEC tramway employee.Set of twelve SEC uniform clothing buttons from a former Ballarat Tram driver. Each about 24 diameter, with SEC crest, 1921 and organisation name embossed onto outer surface, with backing piece and lug for sewing on rear. Nickel plated silver? Badges in varying condition of new to worn. Each has name of manufacturer stamped on rear part - "Stokes & Sons Melbourne". Donor of items 1259, 1260 and uniform jackets. Ephemera - Ticket, Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society (BTPS), BTPS 20c ticket, 1974
Twenty (20c) ticket for the Ballarat Tourist Tramway, printed on semi glossy white paper. Ticket Number A 000000. The ticket is printed using turquoise colour ink, with the ticket number in black ink. Ticket in the style of the SEC tram tickets. Tickets used for Adult Return, Child Return and Child Single from 24/12/1974 to 31/10/1985. Ticket collected at the time of first issue to museum (date 12/7/1974) and placed in a manila envelope for the archives. Set of 14 mixed SEC and BTPS tickets donated to the BTM as a set 1/7/2001. Tickets except for the BTPS ones have note been used. The image file shows the group of tickets. Tickets have not been individually numbered with the Registration Number, but can be identified by their ticket number and denomination. Most of the SEC tickets have the SEC logo "Electricity makes life easier! and small boy wrapped in a towel on the back, unless otherwise noted. Thirty six page (A4) plus 10 folded A3 pages report with clear plastic cover, card rear cover and bound using a white comb binder, featuring a black and white photograph of BTM No. 33 on front cover. Report titled "City of Ballarat - Feasibility Study for Reinstatement of the Ballarat Trams - Final Report - July 1998". Report looks at background, geometric criteria, depot location, alignment proposals, the BTM, existing tramcars, availability and sources of materials, tramcar requirements, operational equipment and has an Appendix. Prepared as revision F, Final report 31/7/1998 by Richard Darby of Maunsell Proprietary Limited in association with Allom Lovell and Associates Pty Ltd. Historically significant for at the time it demonstrated aspects of the evolution of Ballarat Tramways and yields information about the formation of the tramways, the Councils viewpoint and has a strong association with the Mayor of the time.Twenty two page book, produced by photocopying, side stapled and bound with a red plastic binding, titled "Mayor's Special Report Ballarat Tramways", dated 20 September 1971 for presentation to the City of Ballaarat Council Meeting 27 Sept. 1971 and signed by the Mayor, J.A.Chisholm. Note pages 18 and 19 have been reversed. Comprises: Page 1 - map (image 1829i1) - of Ballarat (Ballaarat) showing the horse tram routes in red (appear to have been drawn in with a red pencil). Album comprises heavy cardboard covers with brown Rexene covers, with inside papers of heavy dark grey photo album paper, 36 leaves of dark grey photo paper and two brass interscrews within black grommets. See Condition Details re damage to back cover. Album contains 32 photos - personal prints of Keith Kings. Title page has been hand written to Les Denmead, dated 6/7/1970, thanking Mr. Denmead for his assistance over the years. Photos divided into the three SEC Provincial Tramway cities, each with a typed name proceeding the set of photos. Two further photos of Geelong were at the rear of the album, but were not in position when catalogued. One of these photos may be Reg. Item 1874 - photo of Geelong scrubber tram. Each of the photographs have been separately registered, as shown in the table below. Scanned images made of front and back of the photos. Two copies of a cut sheet of paper headed "Ballaarat Tramway Preservation Society" with a list of tramcars applied for by the Society on 8 July 1971. Lists Scrubber, 11, 14, 27, 28, 31, 32, 33, 34, 38 and 40. Also has notes on the Bendigo Birney cars. One copy has date on it in red biro of "17/7/71'. The sheet appears to have been type set by a printer - style of typeface. Filed with item 922 on the back of a church newsletter, with cuts for the corners of the piece of paper to fit into.One copy has date on it in red biro of "17/7/71". 2nd copy has a number of remarks made by George Netherway about the trams, amount of depot space, and other trams.tramcars, btps, sec
