It is a display item. This is a circular silver object used to hold a folded serviette. Functional object - Lamp Chimney with Box, c. 1920
This glass chimney has been made to fit on the top of an oil lamp. It seems that the box has been used to house a different chimney as the glass is taller than the box and is not crimped. Lamps with chimneys such as this one were used for household lighting in the 19th century and early 20th century before gas lighting and later electric lighting became common. These items are retained for display purposes as reminders of household lighting in the past. The box is a rare survivor. This is a clear glass lamp chimney, mainly circular in shape and open at both ends. It is in a rectangular cardboard box with black printing on two sides. Bottle, Ink bottle, Early to mid 20th century
This ink well is of the type used in the 19th and 20th centuries as a container for ink. Because of its smallness it is presumed it was used in a household or small business. Pens and ink wells were used in writing up to about 1950 when fountain pens became more common and the ink was stored more in bottles or cartridges. The advent of the ballpoint pen eliminated the need for ink. This is a green-tinted glass container with a rectangular body and a smaller rectangular neck with an open top. The top of the container near the neck is ridged. The opening is chipped and partly broken off. ‘3’vintage household items, warrnambool -

This item has no known local provenance but is retained as an example of a household item from times past. This is a wooden barrel with silver-coloured metal bands on the top and bottom of the barrel, a metal handle and a detachable metal lid. Artefact, Inkwell, 1920
This ink well could have been for household use but was more likely to have been used in an office or business. No information has been found on the name on the base – A.R. McLachlan. Ink wells began to be less used when fountain pens came into general use in the 1940s and went out of use completely when ballpoint pens became the popular writing instrument in the 1950s. This is a metal container with a circular base and an upright circular tube in which is inset a china ink well. Mincer Meat, early to mid 1900's
This cast iron kitchen appliance was made in England in the early 1900's and shipped to the "colony" Australia. This was before World War II and the "growing up" of a colony to an independent member of "the British Commonwealth". It was a period when most appliances (be they household) where manufactured in England and shipped to Australian ports. It was not until the late 1960's that the Asian manufacturing giant woke up and started to dominate the market palce. This domestic kitchen appliance is very significant to the Kiewa Valley because it highlights the "made at home" period when food processing was made "in house" due to inability to source food from specialised shops e.g. the butcher or slaughter houses. It was a period before mass food processing factories were established and roads constructed up to the standard for distribution to semi remote regions such as Kiewa Valley was in the beginning of the 1900's.This cast iron (malleable iron) mincer for meat products has a large "funnel" to direct "chunks" of meat to the grinding "wheels". These "star" shaped wheels with "teeth" of three different cutting surfaces (fine, medium and coarse) provide for texture types of the final meat product. The meat is placed into the "loading" funnel and push downwards(gravity feed) through the mincing chamber and out through the front side. There is a long "screw worm" which is rotated by turning the handle. The appliance is table mounted by a vice "G" screw on clamp (hand operated).
