Notes from Joh Ebeli to the Society Committee meeting regarding plans for the use of horse drawn vehicles in the Society's entry for the 1980 parade, including whether Jock Read who opened the 1979 Parade could be asked to participate. Other notes included references to his salvaging (along with a couple of others) of the facade of the Old Bakery and plans to see if it could be incorporated into a new large room to be built at the Eltham Living and Learning Centre and following up Council. The minutes contain present, apologies, minutes of last meeting, correspondence, financial, general business. The Australian Association of Teachers of the Blind (AATB) noted in the minutes on 17/1/1958 that the Council on behalf of the Association invite the New Zealand teachers of the blind to join AATB. The New Zealand teachers had accepted to join AATB and the name of the organisation had been updated to The Australian and New Zealand Association of Teachers of the Blind (ANZATB). The membership comprised of Honorary Life Members, Professional Members, Associate Members and Affiliate Members. These meetings were held at the Kooyong office and the minutes include Present, Chair, Apologies, Minutes, Matter arising from minutes, Correspondence, Life governors, Election of members, Nominations, Reports from Regional Blind Members groups. Some highlights include: 27/7/1992 Mr Ian Moore reported where possible a volunteer driver will be provided to transport members to and from day centres. Where a volunteer driver is not available a taxi will be arranged at the member's expense, with financial hardship cases assisted. 4/3/26/4/1993 a tactile map of AFB Centres has been produced with the assistance of Mr. Danby for members' information. 31/5/1993 it was reported a donation by Mr John Wicking of $50,000 was received to enable the History of the Association to be written by Mr John Wilson. 1 bookassociation for the blind -

Some highlights were: 1/8/1979 Mr Maxwell reported from an article in Sound Magazine which stated that if the present circulation of 2,600 copies of the Large Print Age was not increased it may have to be discontinued. 5/3/1980 a letter of thanks was sent to Sister Toni Cocks for her effort in arranging for Telecom to produce the raised large print telephone dials at no charge to the visually impaired. 2/3/1982 The Secretary reported that the ANZ Bank cheque templates will be launched Australia wide on March 16 and will be on display at the Kooyong Family Fair. 2/7/1982 The Secretary reported that the National Bank has produced a cheque template and that Westpac is proposing to do the same 4/51982 includes a draft copy of AFB philosophies. Newspaper reports relating to the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, Hobart, 1892. "Australasian Association for the advancement OF SCIENCE. Several members of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science arrived in the city yesterday by the inter colonial steamers, some of whom went direct to Hobart, while others remained in the city, but leave for the capital this afternoon. Amongst those who arrived were Baron Von Mueller, the dis tinguished scientist, who has taken some interest in this colony's re sources, Professor W. Baldwin Spencer, M.A., professor of biology at the Melbourne University, who was general secretary at the Melbourne meeting; the Rev. Lorimer Fison, an able worker in the South Sea mission fields; Dr. Robert Giffen, L.L.D., C.ll.; Captain Pascoe, R.N.; Mr Napier Bell, C.E.; Professors Hutton, Nerich, Smith, and Morris, and Mr Richard Teece, F.T.A., the well-known actuary of the A.M.P. Society. A large number of other distinguished members also arrived. Judge Dorkerwho also arrived, was con ducted over the Exhibition in the after noon, and expressed pleasure with what he saw. His Honor leaves by express train to-day for Hobart. The hon. Dr. Campbell was met by Mr Arthur Day, the official agent for Great Britain to the Exhibition, an old friend, who conducted him over the Exhibition. The doctor confined his attention principally to the dry ore concentrator, in which he takes a great interest. He will, however, visit the Exhibition again after the meetings in Hobart has been brought to a termination. What he has seen of the Exhibition has impressed him favourably. (Launceston Advertiser, 6 January 1892.) "TASMANIA. AUSTALASIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE. The fourth congress of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science was commenced in Hobart at 11. o'olock on Thursday by the general Council assembling at the Royal Society's rooms, at the Museum. There was a good attendance, including the Governor, Sir B. G. Hamilton. In the absence of the president, Sir James Hector, the chair was occupied by Baron Von Muellor. In the afternoon Lady Hamilton gave a garden party at Government House to 600 guests, including the members of the association, the Judges, the members of the Ministry, and leading citizens." I. This blank book was used by the Silvan Progress Association. Minutes of the first meeting were taken Sat March 1th 1916 and the last minutes were held in the Library Mechanics Hall on 5th Oct. 1922. The book is filled with Minutes of the monthly meetings and has three paper insertions - a Mont De Lancey Wine List with three wines and their prices per bottle. A second quite damaged paper is: Wandin ? Progress Association Inaugurated 26th Oct 1912. The meeting was held Jan 11, 1913. It lists the monthly meetings and minutes taken up to March 28 1913. The third document is a copy of 13 typed pages from the Shire of Lillydale to Mr. S. Bradley, Hon. Secretary, Silvan Hall Committee, Silvan suggesting to the Committee that the attached plan for the maintenance and betterment for the hall be forwarded to the Public Health Department for approval. It includes a list of names of Guarantors and witnesses.A large red, blue and cream wavy lined paper patterned covered Norman Bros., Minute Book with burgundy tape on the spine. This blank book was used by the Silvan Progress Association. Minutes of the first meeting were taken Sat March 1th 1916 and the last minutes were held in the Library Mechanics Hall on 5th Oct. 1922.
