The framed photographs were presented to University of Ballarat to commemorate 140 years of Technical Education. The Ballarat School of Mines was the first site of technical education in Australasia.Framed photographs of two views of the Ballarat School of Mines Administration Building. The first was was taken c1901 and shows the former Ballarat Circuit Couthouse (now demolished) and the original front of the former Ballarat Wesleyan Church. The second photo was taken in 2010 and shows the former Wesleyan Church, the Administration Building and the Ballarat Technical Art School. This telescope was used at the Ballarat School of Mines, and used to be located on the roof of the Ballarat Technical Art School (Gribble Building) at the Ballarat School of Mines. This building was erected c1856 as the Wesley Church. Negotiations for its sale to the Ballarat School of Mines started in 1883, and the sale was completed for 2000 pounds. The Ballarat School of Mines Musuem was transferred to this building in 1885 giving the collection a more permanent and suitable location. The front was remodelled in 1920. The building was converted from the museum to the E.J. Ballarat School of Mines Council President, Bill Gribble, studied Art at Ballarat School of Mines Technical Art School. In 1956 he was working with Villiers Engineering, then Bendex Mintex in 1966. He retired from there in 1988 as Chairman and Managing Director. In 1989 Bill Gribble was appointed to the Ballarat School of Mines Council. He served as President from 1992 until his retirement in 1996. In that year the Ballarat Technical Art School building was named the W.J. This image was on a CD-ROM which was placed in a time capsule in December 1997, just before the Ballarat School of Mines merged with the University of Ballarat (now Federation University Australia). The time capsule should have been opened in 2020, the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Ballarat School of Mines, but was postponed due to successive lockdowns during the Covid19 pandemic.
