The portrait was commissioned by St Leonard's College in 1989. Mr Cornish sat for the artist in his office dressed in his cap and gown. Initially the portrait was hung in the main school hall, before being moved to the Cornish Campus in the mid 1990's.Richard Burnet Cornish was principal of St Leonard's College from January 1971 to October 1989. He was a dreamer, a driver, a doer and a visionary leader who purchased the land for Cornish Campus in July 1981 and presided at the official opening in February 1987. Camp Westlake was built by Collingwood Technical School in 1967 and was officially opened on 22 September 1968. The camp was built by staff and students of the school with finance from various school sections and from materials donated by interested people and firms. It is named after Mr. F.R.Westlake and Mrs. Westlake who were staunch workers for the school. (From J.F.Barberis}Booklet of 15 pages with gold cover, A4 sized. Opening in 1891 the Moonta School of Mines was intended for students who wanted to increase their knowledge of those arts and sciences which were especially important to miners and others similarly engaged. The School was situated close to the Moonta Mines, at that time the most important copper mines in Australia, and the smelters at Wallaroo. The the mines students were able to acquire practical knowledge of the work of a miner. The close by smelting works at Wallaroo were seen to be of great service to those wanting to become acquainted with chemistry and metallurgy. Subjects taught at the Moonta School of Mines included Chemistry, Metallurgy, Steam and the Steam Engine, Magnetism and Electricity, Mathematics, Machine Design, Mine Surveying and Leveling, Drawing, Plumbing and Sheet Metal Work. Copy of a newspaper article titled Memories of area's goldfield history. After becoming involved with a special history program at the Long Gully Primary School in 1984 as a guest speaker, Alan Crossley explained to the children the features of local goldfields and took them on several excursions highlighting the significance of the Long Gully area played in Bendigo's early growth. The school built up a collection of material of the long Gully area and the idea of a gallery was born. Accompanying photo shows Mr Crossley and the Regional Director of Education Mr Doug Weir at the opening of the gallery. This register obviously uses details from earlier registers as the first students listed in this new document for 1900, include previous registration numbers for pupils, listed beside their number in the new sequence. This is the earliest known Traralgon school register still in existence and contains a wealth of information for family and local historians.This is the earliest known (existing) register for a Traralgon school. This school is referred to locally as Campbell Street and it closed about 1912 with the opening of the new (more permanent) buildings of the new school No. 3584 known as Grey Street. Although the schools have different numbers, they are considered by historians and Education Department officials to be a continuation of the same school.This pupil's register covers the enrolment years 1900 - July 1910, for pupils numbered 1 - 978.
