This file contains four items: 1/An undated and unsigned receipt for stocks from the Melbourne branch of the English, Scottish and Australian Bank Limited. Elsternwick Mechanic Institute has been handwritten in ink on the top right-hand corner. 2/Two stock certificates issued by the English, Scottish and Australian Bank Limited to the Elsternwick Mechanics Institute and Public Library on the 18/06/1908. One is a Preferred Inscribed Deposit Certificate No.4354 and the other is a Debenture Stock Certificate No.10.947. both for the amount of fifteen pounds. 3/A typed letter to the Branch Inspector, Melbourne from the Elsternwick Mechanics Institute and Public Library regarding the stock certificates. Contains one item (typewritten, Photostat copy, photocopy, 2 pages, no date) which appears to be research notes. These notes are describing an ‘Authors Summary of Caulfield Council Minutes’ (author unknown) relating to volunteer fire brigades (Caulfield and Elsternwick) and mention of the Caulfield and Elsternwick fire stations and fire fighting equipment between 02/1885 to 09/1912. Note pages are stamped with Peter R. Murray & Associates. Also indicates Elsternwick Voluntary Fire Brigade set up 1888 and mentions a serious fire in Summer of 1884 and 1885 in Caulfield Park. Also excerpts from Prahran Telegraph 05/01/1888, 26/02/1887 and excerpts from Caulfield and Elsternwick Star, which report on issues of contention between different fire brigades. This file contains five items relating to Caulfield Council Visits with the Melbourne & Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW) from 1919 to circa 1974: 1/A photo album containing photos from the MMBW ‘visit to the Headworks, Yan Yean Water Supply, Wallaby and Silvery Creeks’ from 28/02/1919 to 03/03/1919, attended by members of the Caulfield City Council. The album contains 13 original black-and-white photographs, 3 of which are of the council members. The album is accompanied by a report by Felicitie Campbell, written 11/2008, about these visits. 2/A publication from the MMBW documenting its review of operations for 1973-1974. The report contains information about water supply, sewerage and drainage infrastructure completed or in progress during this period including infrastructure in Caulfield, Ormond, Carnegie and Bentleigh. 3/A periodical feature from the MMBW titled ‘Living City’, issue no. 16, Spring/Summer 1974. Included in the article titled ‘Program’ is a notice that construction will continue on the Elster Creek drain from Thomas St. to Wheatley Road, McKinnon. Document - HRH Prince of Wales Visit to Caulfield 31/05/1920
This file contains four items about the visit of HRH Prince of Wales Edward (later Edward VIII) to Australia in 1920 and specifically a visit to Caulfield on 31/05/1920. 1/A souvenir program ‘HRH Prince of Wales’ visit to Caulfield 31/05/1920: it appears to contain copies of the pages of a book, which it is noted was embossed by a patient at a Rest House in Caulfield, signaller Don Ende, a soldier of World War I. Included is a letter from the Caulfield Mayor W. A. Wharington and Town Clerk F. Jowett to Edward, as well as a typed reply from Edward to the mayor.
