A humorous post card intended to emulate an official army issued post card used for soldiers to quickly send information home. However the options given on the humorous postcard are contradictory. Postcards were a very common form of communication in the first World War. Postcards as souvenirs or as correspondence would have been familiar to the first Legatees as they had served in World War 1.Brown card with printed with black text. Side A Nothing is to be written on this side unles it is of useful information to the Enemy or your lady friends. If anything is written on this card it will be destroyed. In any case it will not be forwarded. I am quite well (?) He is 43 year old and a returned solider from WWI, has an 8 year old daughter. Black and white photograph of the interior a W2 end saloon showing the longitudinal seats upholstered in leather. Photo taken at Preston Workshops, shows interior fit out at the time of construction, with central strap hangers (leather), light fittings. Tram would appear to have been service for some time as it is fitted with advertisements and M&MTB posters. Destination City, 4th Edition page 42 notes that W2 329, 331, 332, 335 were fitted with leather seating in 1929. Keith Kings identified that the tram is 329 in a photo held by the Melbourne Tram Museum. Taken by Sutcliffe Pty Ltd. Photographers. Has "Sutcliffe Pty. Ltd. Set of four letters between the Manager TB and Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo tramways between the period of 27 Dec. 1929 and 30 July 1930 regarding the "Australasian Tramway Conference. See image files for details of the letterhead of the various company offices. 1972.1 - Letter from the Engineer and Manager of the Melbourne Electric Supply Company Limited, Melbourne office advising Mr. A. D. Murdoch, Manager of the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board that he had forwarded the questionnaire to their Geelong Engineer for completion. Dated 30/12/1929. Stamped as being received by the TB as 31/12/1929. Yields information about the appearance of Bendigo Birney trams early 1970's and the Charing Cross area.Black and White Photograph of Bendigo No. 11, Birney, stored in the Bendigo tram depot, early 1970's following an accident. See Bendigo Tramways excerpt re this tram, ex their web site 9/6/2009. Has another, possibly stored tram along side. Photo shows the damaged end panel removed, distorted bumper bar and broken life guard tray. Photo Chris Wurr, early 1970's. "In 1968, the SECV assessed damage to the tram after an accident with an automobile. Upon inspection, it was found that the side bearers of the tram body had spread, and the centre bearers had been severely distorted because of the impact. Repairs of this nature required costly engineering work and with the closure of the tramway being imminent, it was decided to place Car 11 in storage on 6 road until the cessation of SECV services in 1972. Work commenced on the restoration of this tram in 1975 and it returned to service in 1986, being painted in the SECV livery of the 1950s."
