Western Aranda artist, Gerhard Inkamala. Born in 1917, Gerhard was the nephew of Albert Namatjira and grew up being inspired by his artwork and the surrounding landscapes. He became a skilled artist and during the 1940s was one of the founders of the famous Hermannsburg School of Art. In the 1950s Gerhard and his brother Adolf were included in a group exhibition in Alice Springs at the home of Rex Battarbee who was the Warrnambool-born art teacher of Albert Namatjira. These were issued to US Troops in South Vietnam. They are designed to be fitted under their poncho. These were much sought after items by Australian soldiers obtained by swapping, purchasing etc.This is a nylon type lightweight blanket for a soldier in jungle warfare. It is camouflaged with curved patterns of black, brown and two ton green. The outer material is of a "Ripstop" material. It is hemmed with with an olive nylon material.
