Folder, Japanese P.O.W.s Buried at Cowra, C. 2000
Names of prisoners of war and internees who died while imprisoned in the camp at Cowra. Names include those Japanese who died during the suicidal breakout from the Cowra P.O.W. Camp. on 4th. August 1944.The majority of those buried in the Cemetery were brought to, and imprisoned in Australia during WW2. Little information remains about many of these people other than their burial records.Black two ring folder with printed material in plastic sleeve. -

Riding Crop, 1944-45
Made by a German Prisoner of War in Camp 13 (Murchison) and given to a member of the garrison, R. E. O'Hara. Internees / POW's made many items from largely scrap material during their time in the camps. This item holds historical and cultural significance as an example of the ingenuity of internees & how many occupied their time in camps, shaping the cultural and creative life of those in the camps. Also a possible indicator of relationship between garrison and internees. Dark brown wooden crop or swagger stick with a wooden knob on one end and a horse hair plume attached with cord to the other end. Else Oertel was a German internee in Camp 3A from 1940-1945. The German Red Cross sent items to the internees in the camps and this game was one of the items given to the Oertel family. Else's daughter, Else-Lore Hukins donated the items.Cardboard box containing 3 in 1 game set. Box is tan & cream with small checkered pattern. The painting was bought from Cesare Vagarini by Herr Wennagel for "Weihnachten" 1941 (Christmas) for his wife Johanna (Hanno) Wennagel. It was their first Christmas in the Camp. Herr Wennagel made many of the frames for Vagarini's paintings.A large Eucalyptus Tree surrounded by four huts - one on the left, three to the right. Green grass between the huts. A sunflower is growing at the side of the front left hut and a woman wearing a white shirt and blue skirt is seen entering the hut. Two women, one in pink and one in yellow are standing on a pathway between the huts. Clothes hanging on a washing line can be seen behind the tree near the last hut on the right.
