Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. Probably someone's notes to do with SLR's, water transport and trucks.This is a pocket size, hard cover note book. The cover is green buckram. It shows the Australian Coat of Arms. Army form AAB-64. Inside consists of some blank pages and a large quantity of square lined pages. The squares are 6mm x 6mm. At the back is carbon paper.On one plain page is the date “17 Jul 88 0530 HR” with notes and a male name “Ph. NR”. At the rear are notes on weapon handling. Orders & headlines. Pair of 2 PDR cartridges of WW1 vintage, probably a version used by Naval weapons. These are an example of trench art. These used cartridges have been modified with the addition of three brass 'feet' which have been brazed onto the end of the empty case to enable them to be used as a flower vase. -

The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. Upon its return in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion. It was disbanded following the end of the war. 20th Light Horse was the only light horse regiment to serve overseas in WWII.This is one of a collection of photographs featuring a Light Horse regiment drawn from rural and regional Victoria in the period immediately prior to mobilisation for World War 2 (1939-1945).Black and white photograph of 10 mounted light horsemen armed with Lances with pennants attached. Pair of 6 PDR brass cartridge cases of WW2 vintage. These were manufactured in Britain and are a version used by Naval weapons. These used cartridge cases are examples of trench art which have been embossed with bird and flower symbols. These have been made into flower vases. these were manufactured during the 1940s. -
