Grave of Samuel Payne (died 30/09/1892) and Mary Payne (died 1926) in Plot# G12 Greensborough Cemetery. RIP. Mary 1851-22/09/1926. Mary married Samuel Payne in 1867 (4138) she then married Frederick William Henniker in 1902 (2137).Greensborough Cemetery was created when land was given for the cemetery by Mr William Poulter, a local settler, about 1864. This collection of photographs contains a number done by local photographers including Thomas Johnson, James Harvey, Daniel Clarke, J Hider and P Dawson of Hamilton( and also Warrnambool). Some photos are dated 1873 and 1867 and names include C C Hunt July 17/66. This album contains a number of photographs by some of Warrnambool’s earliest photographers and while the subjects are unknown, the still add to the body of work by these artists which have survived to this day. This book was originally written for private circulation among the Royal Family. It was written by Lieutenant-General Charles Grey (1804-1870) and was first published in 1867. It was commissioned by Queen Victoria. Grey had been secretary to both Albert and herself. Contents were sourced from letters and memoranda.This book was a significant contemporary record of the royal family. Originally Queen Victoria had attempted to record "an exact account" of hers and Albert's happy marriage but was unable to complete the project on her own. She commissioned Grey to compile it under her supervision, firstly for the royal family and then for public release. It was an outstanding sucess with many editions being necessary.A 469 page book which has green cloth board covers with gilt lettering on the spine and decorative gilt motifs on the front and rear boards. Construction of service road in front of the former Ann Dowling (Miers) 1866 Crown Grant, Title dated October 1870. She married Henri Miers in 1867.Their house was located on the site near the Myers Gully part of Ryans Creek. Built in 1867 and later named “Burnbank” by Martha Myers after the Street in Ballarat were she lived before arriving in Melton in 1907. She married Frederick Myers in 1908. He died in 1963, and Martha moved to a new home at 5 McKenzie Street Melton in 1968. Attempts made by the family to retain the historic cottage were unsuccessful. A demolition order imposed by the Housing Commission and it was pulled down by the family. Jetter and Scheerer were a surgical instrument maker founded in Germany in 1867. Their company symbol is that of a serpent curled around a rod, surmounted by a coronet/crown. This instrument was part of a collection of instruments used by Dr Michael Kloss in his medical practice. Dr Kloss subsequently donated this collection to the College.Metal forceps, consisting of two blades which lock together with a pin fitting. The handle of one of the forceps blades is engraved with the word 'Kloss', both on the outside and on the inner aspect. The number '26' is engraved on the inner aspect of both blades near the pin joint. The upper shaft of one blade is engraved with the word 'HOSON'. Bendigo Volunteer Rifles were formed in 1857/58 and the Bendigo Cavalry in 1861. Each man supplied his own outfit with the cavalry carrying sabres rather than guns. Margaret Jane Porter, born 1867, and her sister Julia Ann Porter, born 1884, were the daughters of David Porter and Mary Nihill, of "The Pines", Newtown. Julia married Henry (Harry) O'Beirne in 1919. In 1866, in an effort to maintain the main roads of the region it was decided to establish toll roads on the Belfast, Woodford, Purnim and Allansford roads. Gates were erected and the leases were disposed of by auction. In 1867 the Woodford tollhouse was destroyed by fire suspected to be deliberate. The tolls were removed three years later after much opposition.This item has historic significant as in the early years(1864) of Warrnambool Tolls were levied on the three main roads leading from Warrnambool into the Shire. Ballarat Female Refuge was established in 1867 by a group of 26 Ballarat ladies. The laundry was attached to the Refuge, supposedly to train the women there for domestic work, but by the size of the mangle, this was impossible. Unbearably hot in summer, and freezing cold in winter, the women had to work in the laundry while they were at the Refuge. The tolls were removed three years later after much opposition. These tickets are a physical link to one of the earliest attempts to introduce a toll road in the district. Seven toll road tickets five mounted on card. Light paper. Six are for the Main Belfast Road and one for the Woodford road. There are various prices ranging from sixpence to three shillings. Four are cream in colour, one each of blue, yellow and green. William Ochiltree Lewers (1867-1943) was a son of LInton's first bank manager Samuel Lewers and his wife Annie. He farmed at “Hoyles Creek”, Mannibadar. Bendigo Advertiser ''The way we were'' from 2000. Pall Mall: Sandhurst circa 1860s. In January, 1865, land in Pall Mall sold for 90 pounds per foot. In 1867, the Duke of Edinburgh visited the town. The Prince Albert Hall was erected next to the town hall for the Prince's visit. Unfortunately, the hall burnt down just hours before his arrival. A torchlight procession to mark the occasion saw the model of 'Galatea', manned by four boys, aged about eight, catch fire and result in the death of three people. Four-page typed document with map, detailing the history and plant of the New Moon Gold Mine on the Garden Gully line of reef. The mine was located approximately one mile north of Eaglehawk Town Hall. The depth of the shaft was 2,400 ft. The mine was first formed in 1867. The signaling system in the mine was electric with a telephone service which connected the engine driver with the plat chamber. At most mines, when the men were below the surface, the men could signal to the driver, but he could not communicate with them.
