Sheetmetal was introduced to the Ballarat School of Mines in this year, as was the Ballarat Junior Technical School - a division of the Ballarat School of Mines. Assay and Chemical Laboratories remodelled. It was decided that the new Ballarat Technical Art School would be built on the site of the former Circuit Courthouse, which for many years served as a Museum for the School. It was noted that demolishing this building would remove one of the very oldest landmarks of Ballarat. Swinger operated between 1972 and 1975 at Ballarat Civic Hall. The Ballarat Observatory was transferred to the Ballarat East Council. Thomas S. Hart resigned to fulfil the position of Head Master of the School of Forestry at Creswick. B. Whitington resigned to fill the position of Directorr of the School of Mines at Queenstown, Tasmania. In 1885, at the instigation of James Oddie, the Government reserved three acres (about 1.2 hectares) for an observatory in Cobden Street, Mount Pleasant, originally known as the Ballarat School of Mines Observatory. In March 1886 a committee was appointed for the care, protection and management of the reserve. Captain Baker, a retired sea captain, was invited to become the first Superintendent of the Ballarat Observatory. Six colour photographs of the stained glass windows in the Ballarat Observatory. The first stained glass window was installed from around 1915-16, and were probably associated with John Brittain. These units were built in 1991. One of the first objectives of the Association was "to provide the shelter of a hose for those Pioneers of the Goldfields whom the reverses of fortune have deprived of the means of procuring the comforts of life in their declining years." The first home at Charles Anderson Grove was built in 1925. Before that time the Association provided relief for needy pioneers. relief included monthly monetary payments, loads of firewood, medical assistance and distribution of Christmas bosed of groceries to deserving pensioners, and in some cases payment of burial costs. ::a) The dominant purpose of the Association is to give public benevolent relief as a charity, but providing independent living accommodation in our Retirement Village for person in need who are over 65. ::b) To raise funds by membership subscription, commercial and residential rents, donations, gifts and voluntary work, for the purpose of providing direct relief of poverty, distress, misfortune or helplessness. ::c) To maintain the important heritage and ongoing viability of the Old Colonists' Association. The opening of the Complex on 28 June 1991 marks a significant step in the capacity of the Ballarat School of Mines to provide quality, modern, purpose built and comfortable accommodation for student.
