The VC Reference Number range 33001-34999 has been reserved. The Borough of Ringwood was created in December 1924, formally part of the South-West riding of the Shire of Lillydale. Ringwood was proclaimed a city on 19 March 1960. On 15 December 1994, the City of Ringwood was amalgamated to form part of Maroondah City Council. The detailed years are: 1924-25, 1926-27, 1928-29, 1930-31, 1932-34, 1934-35 and 1944-49. For researchers, the rate books are in assessment number sequence. Occasionally, they is also in surname or estate sequence but do not rely on this. The original records are kept at PROV, North Melbourne. Martin Malone acquired a pharmacy business in Bacchus Marsh in December 1932. The business operated from premises in Main Street. He acquired the pharmacy from a Mrs A. E. Grant who briefly operated the business during 1932 after being a pharmacist in Pakenham East for a number of years. In 1936 the pharmacy moved to 143 Main Street. Martin Malone sold the pharmacy to F. Benallack in September 1947 and moved to Canterbury in Melbourne to continue his pharmacy career. The prescription books in this collection encompass entries from August 1927 until February 1937. As Malone did not acquire the business in Bacchus Marsh until 1932 the collection includes records created by earlier proprietors of the business.Detailed customer records of prescriptions dispensed by Pharmacists are held by some libraries and museums in Victoria but they are a relatively rare type of material to be preserved. These records cover a period of severe economic depression and are particularly valuable as a record of how pharmaceutical practices were conducted during times of economic hardship. . This is a set of 35 photographs of the Army Survey Regiment personnel undertaking military skills revision, at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo, 1985. They participated in lessons on the handling of the M30 Grenade and SLR Rifle. These lessons were part of the six objectives of regimental training outlined in the administrative instruction – Exercise “City Soldier” accompanying these photos. The other objectives were first aid at Fortuna, RATEL and navigation at Wellsford Forest; and rifle shooting at Wellsford Rifle Range. These 15 photographs of golf, sailing, rifle shooting and squash team and sports action were taken on Flag Day, an annual sports competition between the Army Survey Regiment (ASR) and the School of Military Survey (SMS), at Bendigo circa 1977. Sailing was most likely held at Lake Eppalock and rifle shooting at Wellsford Rifle Range. The venues for golf and squash are unknown. The two RA Svy units took turns each year to host the event. The day competition usually comprised basketball, cross country, golf, sailing, squash softball, tennis, rifle shooting, touch football, tug-of-war and volleyball. The evening competition often included darts, carpet bowls, hookey, quoits and snooker. This is a set of 14 photographs of RA Svy technicians operating photogrammetric equipment in Air Survey Squadron, Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo; and the School of Military Survey Bonegilla c1960s to c1980s. The Wild B9 stereo plotter were introduced in 1962 and the Wild B8 stereo plotter was introduced in 1966. The Wild B9 and B8 stereo plotters were used for plotting topographic detail and contours. These analogue machines were manually controlled by adjusting the control knobs for the orientation of the 3D image. The B9s used a four and a half square, and the B8s used a nine-inch square photo image on a film or glass diapositive which allowed highly accurate extraction of map features. At first, plotting with B8 and B9 stereo plotters was undertaken at the aerial photography scale of 1:80,000 in pencil onto a controlled plotting sheet. Sheets were then inked up and reduced photographically to the 1: 100,000 publication scale for scribe impression production. In the early days topographic detail and contours were plotted with a pencil or ink pen mounted at the far end of the pantograph arm. The plotting procedure was upgraded to direct plotting in ink with photographic reduction to publication scale. In 1975 four B8s were upgraded with tri-axis locaters as part of the Input Sub-system to enable digital extraction to AUTOMAP 1’s topographic database. When AUTOMAP 2 was introduced in 1982 these B8s were upgraded, and additional machines added to expand the Army Survey Regiment’s digital capture capability. This book belonged to Captain Charles Rogers of the Australian Army. He was part of the Guard of Honour during the visit of the Duke of Gloucester in 1934. The visit was part of Victoria’s Centenary celebrations. Rogers was a well-known Warrnambool identity in the 1930s, 40s and 50s as a horseman and an army man. He was a long-serving Warrnambool Agricultural Show official as a judge of equine events. He died in 1961. The book is of interest as it belonged to a well-known resident of Warrnambool in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. This is a hard cover book of 1068 pages. It has a red cover with black printing on the spine. The book has an Introduction, textual material on military law in three Sections and an Index. It also has several pages of advertisements printed on pink paper at the front of the book. The cover at the top part of the spine is torn away, there is evidence of silverfish damage in several places and the text has been annotated in many places, in handwriting in red ink. There is a signature of the owner in pencil on the one of the first pages and blue stamps of the Warrnambool & District Historical Society on the same page and on a back page.
